In a game where they encourage you to go get stronger and retry boss fights intentionally, how are you even remotely surprised this exists? The design for it is fine

The reforge 3-1 bench has limited use in the campaign, if any at all, so it doesn’t matter if you back track to get it later. Also, you’re referencing the first time you encounter the boss, so you can out-level and overpower the fight before you even finish act 3.
The reward is not pathetic, the reward is a mandatory asset for you lategame experience.
The boss is optional as far as the campaign is concerned, and you can come back overleveled to slap him.
Or tweak your build/gear.
There are only solutions here.

Should have a way to turn off the valves at the end or whatever and the arena can collapse on you giving you a small space to fight him. Very lazy design here though. It is terrible for us 0 dps builds.

This is odd because the top lvl 99 player in the world is melee..
