How would easy respec's hurt the game?

Someone please explain to me why full respecs shouldn't be free, or a nominal cost.

There are different types of endgame content, so wouldn't you want to switch up your builds to do different things? You may want to try different gear setups from time to time - again, easy respecs make that possible.

How does that not make the player experience better and more fun? If I want to try a different build every day, how exactly is that a bad thing?

For people saying "meaningful choices" - the more meaningful you make the choice, the less willing people are to make them. Even Pokemon realized they had to stop single use TM's because people never used them. I'd rather be free to keep experimenting and switching things up, rather than having to rely on a build guide so I don't end up nerfing myself.

Help me out here, guys.

Wouldn't this trivialise Bosses? You just change your Spec/setup to whatever fits that boss the best.

I think respec in campaign should have a lower cost to find your best build but not anymore if you reach maps

I like cozy games
If the game is about min-maxing, then accessible and easy respecs are far too tempting, encouraging players to do it constantly. And that ruins the gameplay.
Theorycrafting here.

If GGG is datamining the state of the game, then there's potential to find out where classes hit a brick wall, and maybe get some insight into changes they might need to make in the passive tree. Easy respecs take away from that insight. Painful for us, better information for them. As I said, theorycrafting.
didn't they do the split passive tree with two weapons exactly for this("different types of endgame content, so wouldn't you want to switch up your builds to do different things?")? i haven't tried this mechanic yet but is it limited in that sense?
I think during EA while they are balancing respec costs should be free.

After A3 and A6, we should receive an itemized-untradeable consumable for a full respec.

Alternatively, there should be an option for a full respec at a discounted price.

it would trivialise the importance of your build choices and destroy a lot of the replayability.

its one of many decisions ggg have made in the path of exile games that led to their game having massive replayability and long term success where a game that made the other choices like diablo 3 failed.

this is a game where you roll new characters, go again. you play out the different choices, you dont just spend a minute respeccing to them, go "oh thats that build hu? ok, next..." and just burn through all the game has to offer with 0 commitment, importance or feeling of investment in what you are doing. easy come easy go.

this is not that game. if people are not into the idea of making new characters to explore new character ideas then they wernt sticking around for long anyway. the games long term success comes from making the things long term players do have a sense of weight, importance, value.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
It is a slippery slope. First you give players free respec, then they want smart loot, after that they want XYZ ... and poof, the game feels like you can just cheat in every item you want and nobody plays it anymore because it has become boring af.

Players often wine they want xyz. But in reality this would ruin the game. GGG has proven, over many years, that they are very good in identifying the actual underlying issue and come up with their own, better solution.

At some point there just has to be a hard NO and the wining must be ignored. Wining players will inevitable ruin every game, if listened to.

Furthermore, there is absolutely zero need for free respecs!

Everybody has the option to respec for gold. If you do not have enough gold, then you mismanaged a limited resource, that is by design limited (in the sense of time spent), or you just need to farm more resources. On this character or a new one.

part of me agrees, another part thinks thats dangerous.

the counterpoint would be in order to get there, beat campaign, you have to have a functioning build that completed the task. what if you then respec to a build that doesnt work? a build incapable of getting you to the point you are at?

see what im saying? the presumption is the thing you respec to will be better, but the reality is that it often isnt.

ive even seen posts from people in the feedback already saying "i spent all my gold respeccing and the new tree doesnt work, now i have no character, no gold and no way to farm gold."
