Controller Target Selection

First off, I am new to Path of Exile. The experience I have with ARPGs has come from playing Diablo since Diablo 2.

From this early access I have been having a blast. I cannot speak about how things were before. However, I can see that effort has been meticulously put into this game.

I usually enjoy playing games using a controller and what I have found so far from PoE2 is that the experience can be frustrating.

This is not to say that it has been poorly done. In fact, I feel that the overall controls and mapping are easy to navigate. My issue comes during boss fights with a multitude of small mobs thrown into the mix. For example, Count Geonor and Rathbreaker.

From my understanding, "move" with the left analog stick and "aim" with the right. The lock on feature adds ease of use so you do not have to keep your hand on the right stick to allow for your thumb to click other buttons. The controller targeting system seems to lock on to a fair number of unintended enemies. The targeting system (at times) seems to override the directional input of the right stick and will stay locked on to the target it chooses. This becomes a bigger issue when you are channeling an ability. You could end up spending a few moments channeling an ability just to see that you are locked onto the wrong target and miss your opportunity to attack.

My suggestion would be to expand the options for controller input. For instance, you could allow for this targeting system to be removed through a toggle option in the settings, or you could allow for the ability to switch targets while channeling spells/charging attacks.

Overall, this is just one blip in a great experience and there are plenty of ways to work around this issue. Thank you to the teams that have put in phenomenal work thus far.

We need a way to LOCK target while using a Controller ..
Give us the option to swap between targets, many games do this.
The D-Pads are not used on the SteamDeck ...
GGG You have a ton of options ...

Example: press R3 to enter MANUAL target selection mode.
Then use the Right Stick to select swap between targets.
