Trials of Chaos, Uxmal The Beastlord, is Bad Design
Uxmal is one of the most abysmally designed fights I've ever played, in any respectable game. How did this make it past QA?
Let's play out the fight here
Spoiler
1 Be melee so clearly the first mistake here. Quit and make a new character I'd say respec, but... 2 Find the boss in the largest boss fight map in the campaign 3 Boss ranged attacks you as soon as he appears on screen meaning, he started the attack off screen because these cameras are so zoomed in you can't see half the bosses 4 Boss then immediately flies up and elemental AOE attacks the ground for 4-5 seconds leaving behind shock, ice, fire or poison hazards hazards that NEVER disappear 5 Boss then slams down for a physical AOE attack 6 Boss leaves a literal 1-2 second window for melee damage 7 Boss then flies away off screen ??? so far away in fact that the music ends and his health bar disappears Then you get options 8a Repeat steps 2-7 for the next 15-30 minutes mind you, you'll be RUNNING THROUGH THE HAZARDS THAT NEVER DISAPPEAR 8b Spam global chat about how stupid of a boss fight Uxmal is I chose option B He was so far away from me I was in no danger Sometimes he came back on his own, other times, music ends Literally not worth chasing just a waste of time. It's not even hard it's just stupid. So so so so soooo stupid. This game has so many good boss fights. A few great boss fights. And a terribly zoomed in camera. But then there is this abomination. How in The Hooded One's name this met the bar I honestly cannot fathom. In all the campaign bosses, this is the one and only fight that drove me to the forums specifically to rant. Scrap it. Scrap the whole concept. At least for melee. Make a new boss for melee focused ascendancies. Choose the boss based on the weapon equipped and limit weapon set / inventory. Just remove this fight.
