XP loss on death?

except game literally enforces glass cannon as only viable strategy and no way to actually layer defenses to reach any semblance of durability ...

and its already declining ...

depending how many fiascos with balancing they get at current atrition the game will reach poe1 numbers within a month and if they dont do something to keep players from quitting in less than 3 months the whole thing will collapse

and thats taking into account that nearly noone is getting to the "i didnt everything thats to do so im leavig" phase, vast majority of the leaving players are going because of bad experience not lack of content ... YET ...

And how is the XP loss the reason for all of that? Why did POE1 achieve a new peak with every other league if XP loss would be the problem hwy people leave?

XP loss only starts at level 70, and most of the casual player base isnt even there yet.

xp loss is not the only problem here ... thats for starters

secondly i already etold you why, in PoE1 Xp is easy to get and dying on even casual level build is rare and unexpected

here one mistimed dodge means you get oneshot ... thats not a type of gameplay loop where you can have permanent xp penalty and why in every "souls-like" you get everything back by collecting your corpse to try again ...

To be fair, POE 1 almost has no XP loss anymore since they introduced:

On top, trading is as easy as never before thanks to Faustus. For example I was ALWAYS too lazy to sell 99% of my essences, oils, fossils and other things. Now that faustus made it ubereasy to get currency I had more than 500 divines and a level 100 char within the league while in general I stopped playing a league at level 95-98 because the xp penalty was harder without the omens and I hadn't enough currency to buy the really great items. Right now POE 1 is perfectly balanced for a part time player like me that has to raise kids and work a job. POE 2 on the other hand is balanced around the nolife crew (like POE 1 was in it's early years).
Overall the impact of the xp penalty is A LOT harsher for POE 2.

Is this really a thing that needs to be discussed? WHen has this ever worked out in any game ever?

Worked for more than a decade already for POE 1. ^^

No, it didn't. This was the mechanic that singlehandedly made me quit POE. As much as they respect my time with everything else (especially not deleting HC characters) – this is a giant FU from GGG and after learning about it being in POE 2 I feel much less motivation to get back into the game.
I think they should remove this.
This mechanic just drives away players and makes them quit. It's just minus profits for them. It should be deleted. This is 2024 not 2004. And if you want the game to be "harder" then you have hc ssf and even ruthless in poe 1.

It might be hard to believe, after all the support packages I got over the years, my highest level character is 97 :(

I consider myself casual, and just reached 70 on my Titan(wrong class I know), I had to say I absolutely hated it. I didn't like it on POE1, I don't like on POE2 as well.

Casual player like me don't have that much free time to play everyday. We have disposable income to buy support packs, but not enough time to play. And each death make it feels like a huge loss on progress.

I know people say it's a "skill" issue. But if this game wants to cater wider audience. I think death penalty shouldn't be this much, especially you can get 1 shot by many boss mechanics or by mods from outside screen.
