Why is death penalty still a thing?

Level 100 isn't meant for every build. Reaching it should only be possible with a strong, resilient build that can survive consistently.

Glass cannon builds should NEVER be able to reach max level.

Harsh conditions and death penalties give your items and accomplishments value. If anyone could do it easily, the value would disappear. It's as simple as that. Now you can try to argue against it, but it won't make any difference.

"Value" in a game? Bits and Bytes? In a game thats supposed to be fun? ok i guess...
Death penalties are a good thing to encourage good and cautious play, otherwise people play braindead netflix gameplay.

Maps are an endgame activity after dozens of hours of campaign (more to come remember) for a casual audience, a lot of players play these games and finish after story.

Post game content is for the more involved players, it would be boring not to expect you to be more cautious. I have never run into a situation where I get oneshot from offscreen or something similar so this is very fair, you have to judge encounters you can and cannot take and not be expected to beat every pack/rare you see.
