Grenade Interactions/Spam GPU Particle System Performance

Hello,

I have been playing a grenade focused build on pathfinder as I progress the campaign. Now that I have excellent mana sustain, +1 grenade cooldown, +2 grenade projectiles, my performance tanks when spamming these abilities. Something to the effect of transient drops of about 20-25 fps depending on how many projectiles have been fired and how they are interacting (the slowdown is worse if I use my explosive shot to trigger all of them at once). Using the F1 graph as well as HWMonitor external tool, I have come to believe this is the result of the new GPU Particle system. My system is CPU bottlenecked right about at the minimum specs. i7-7700 and a GTX1070.
Normally my GPU usage is rather modest, peaking at maybe 60 or 70% with a good number of skill effects happening, like elemental witch combos and other various ignite/shatter combos. Whenever I do a full rotation of grenade skills this utilization generally always hits 100%. My GPU frame time goes from 12-18ms to 31-42ms (approximately). I understand that more skill effects = more particle effects = longer frame times but perhaps something can be done about any overlapping GPU particle instances all generating overlapping sparks/flames. When I have oil and gas down and then I shoot explosive nades and then trigger all of these 9 grenades with a scattershot explosive shot I feel like while the resulting massive chain reaction explosion is impressive, I wouldn’t lose much in terms of how spectacular it looks if there were some particles merged or culled with so much going on. Especially when these combos are my bread and butter, even looking as awesome as they do it is hard for them to not feel somewhat mundane and routine after using them for hours :)

Sorry for the poor formatting, if anyone wants me to do some testing (I have a sneaking suspicion that oil grenade ignited ground effect is more costly than some others) or give their own experiences with grenade particles affecting performance I’d love to hear.

Necro bumping this thread as the GPU particle system still drags my performance drastically, on all abilities, not just grenades.

Dynamic cull works to stabilize my FPS, but there are many boss abilities that are invisible now. Not sure if different culling bias would help in the interim, but I would really like to see some more options for particle performance, if not just a concerted effort on optimization of the new system.

I understand a 1070 is an outdated card, but it meets minimum requirements, and I am not looking to play on buttery smooth 60fps or something, but scraping 40 with very aggressive culling, or dipping consistently below 20fps with dynamic culling off, I feel like there is surely some room for improvement.

This would greatly impact my enjoyment of the game, and overall I feel like everything runs great other than the GPU particles, Vulkan is doing well helping out my i7-7700, and overall things look rather crisp and consistent even with bottomed out settings.
