Infernalist thoughts and concerns
To preface this, I am a minion enjoyer. The aesthetic for minions in POE2 is definitely there and very enjoyable. However, the scaling from early game to end game seems to be off. Early minions are so weak you don't level with them till through act 1. Minions definitely get better though.
I've been running a few maps, up to doing tier 3's and I'm running into a common issue that's making the game a little to unenjoyable to want to keep pushing. 1) Chaos damage: There are no accessible options for chaos resistance and regular resistance. Having the amount of chaos damage this early with no way to counter it has been rough. Getting 1 shot from some shot gun abilities and floor mechanics I cannot see because of minion spam. Currently 1.8k life and 1.6k ES. This is a sub complaint about infernalist ascendency. The altered flesh keystone is so good and very strong, however, it's a survivability nerf until you have higher chaos resistance. 2) Minion Ai/space consumption: This is a hard one to explain. The minion Ai seems generally pretty good. But there seems to be a problem with pathing. With the HIGH quantity of tunnel/corridor maps in this game, I can only have 3 or 4 minions attacking mobs at a given point. This cuts my damage down dramatically and making me die more often because I can't kill the mobs I'm trapped in a tunnel with. 3) Getting trapped: Even with the patch to make dodge rolling a better escape tool, I'm still getting trapped, mainly due to problem stated above. The tunnels are too narrow. I've run into multiple poorly laid out mechanics that have trapped me where they shouldn't have. I have had ritual altars lined up with rocks that have effectively trapped me in a 1/3 pie circle. Cant roll out or through it and minions had limited access to damage those mobs. I have had similar issues with the insane density from breach. While I love that some mechanics are super dense, makes for better end game. Having to accessible blink/phasing is making this really problematic. Especially as a softcore player only having 1 portal/life for mapping. It's not lining up with the softcore playstyle. 4) Rare mod "Revives minions": Have had a couple annoying interactions with this where a mob I am not in combat with is constantly reviving minions. I sometimes can't even see the rare on my screen doing this. Second note with this mod, it's really good at trapping you too. When you go to pull/engage with this rare reviving minions, it will sometimes spawn the enemies behind you. Again, trapping you. My hype for the game is slowing to a halt as I have run into some problems that I don't feel I have tools for yet. I respect that this is early access so I remain optimistic that things will smooth out. I may re-roll to a self casting sorceress just to see if I have more control over my environment and being able to more accurately make my way through packs of mobs.
