PoE 2 doesn't know what an ARPG is

Look there is POE 1 if ya want the mindless running around w/ auto skills that nuke all in your path. I think GGG's vison of POE 2 is perfect more methodical engaged gameplay. Ya I know all the streamers liked the running around one shotting it all to farm subs and engage the shills while looking like a pro but are we making games just for them these days? It's nice to have a game that's not a one v one clone of what came before.
Souls like what? just look at one of the 10 builds that one shots pinnacle 30m+ hp bosses, the game is completely broken and is a joke at this point, I see people oneshotting bosses faster than in 0.1
POE2 is back to the roots of what an ARPG is. And you clearly have never played Diablo or Diablo 2 with this opinion.

Stop playing this season and go play them to get a taste.
There is a reason people compare core mechanics. You can not get around dark souls anymore. It nailed what people were asking for decades for in games. Everything else is just meh now.
Melee characters tell since release they are not able to survive without broken builds. That is for the speed of the game. And if they could actually play melee the game wouldnt be too slow.
What makes the game feel slow for me is the progression in late game. It always feels like I have somebody in my neck. Makes the endgame more of a sludge than enjoyable.
The best way to do it, is just running empty but juiced maps to grind to 90-95 really quick.
That means, Im blasting but why even have the content? Could not find a single build that really requires more than lv95 to peak.
Reasonable is to just grind xp in one go, then do all the rng bs to get currency and buy on trade site. But at that point, I am already leveled and the best items in the game are so expensive that I have to stop playing the game and start trading.
All that said. The game needs a lot of balancing before I would even consider comparing the actual gameplay to dark souls.

Boss fights in PoE 2 are very souls like and if I wanted to play a souls like with challenging bosses then I would just play Elden Ring which is a superior game. GGG this time around doesn't understand the soul of a top down ARPG and what it means to blast through maps, tearing down large packs of enemies and destroying bosses with powerful builds. I feel that PoE 2 wants the player to feel weak and even worse, wants the player to feel slow. Bosses in PoE 2 are more so to punish players with their overturned health bars and one shot mechanics. It takes like 20 minutes to get a boss's health bar down to be low enough where he is almost dead only for the boss to cast his AoE attack that fills the entire screen and one shots and kills the player because the mobility in this game is so slow that it's inefficient to avoid enemy attacks. Health, armor, resistance, all that goes out the window when fighting a boss because they will kill you anyways when you try and face tank it.

I strongly believe that many years ago during the heightening success of Dark Souls, the executives at GGG were really impressed with what Fromsoftware had created that they had plans and concepts to make their very own souls game. But however their parent company Tencent commissioned them to make a sequel to PoE 1 so they had no choice but to make a top down ARPG until the devs thought what if they could try to make both games into one?

Some would argue that PoE 2 isn't really a souls game but I play most top down ARPGs going back to D2 and I have played most souls games and I can tell you that what makes PoE 2 souls like is the experience and challenge of fighting bosses in comparison to dark souls and in contrast to the top town ARPGs where your hulk of a character simply sees bosses at loot piñatas.

My point is that this style of combat is unnatural in a top down ARPG but works in a souls like and trying to do both could be seen as controversial considering how contrasting the two sub genres are from one another. Now in PoE 2 the results of a boss fight are more determined by skill rather than a gear check. Some people may find that fun but Elden Ring would be a better game for it.

You forgot about one difference. This is not a dark Souls game. In dark Souls, you don't lose anything when you die, and defeating a difficult boss rewards you properly. And most importantly, you are playing alone. There's no point in rushing anywhere. There is also a unique variation here. Defeating the boss will reward you with a pile of trash, which you will sell to the seller without even examining it. If at the beginning of the league you don't have enough time to upgrade the main character to an acceptable level, then in the future you will have problems purchasing new items, because auction prices are rising faster than you can afford in the first month. Or you may just get stuck at some level due to the fact that you don't have proper equipment, or you have chosen the wrong path of development and simply can't go on. And farming low-level locations to change equipment at constantly rising prices is the same as running around trying to overtake a Ferrari. Oh yes, in that case, even your level will stop, because you will constantly die.
