Third Ascendancy - My solution
BACKGROUND - Ascendancy 1 and 2
At this point, I have complete the campaign twice, and I have started mapping on my second character. My first character, I played through until level 42. This playthrough was day 1, and it took me 42 levels to realize that there were more support gems in the game than the 3 recommended support gems for my basic attack. I played through three acts using 3 total supports in all of my skills, combined. I had walked past the first ascendancy on accident, and it took my until level 27 or 28 to figure out where it was, and how to do it. Even with a crap build, no gear, 3 support gems, I one shot this ascendancy without knowing what honour was until half way through the sanctum. If you are struggling, overleveling is a viable option as the level 22 Djinn is reusable. This is also the case for the second ascendancy ultimatum. I proceeded to reroll with some knowledge that there were more than 3 tier 1 support gems in the game. My second playthrough was a breeze, completing both the first ascendancies at level 22 and 38, respectively, in the first attempt. The Third Trial: First attempt- I got an unavoidable no evasion curse on a deadeye, still made it to stage 3. Second attempt- Stuck in a corner mid stage 3. It is here I bothered learning what a relic is. Honour resistance? Guess I need some of that Third attempt- Im in tier 2 maps and all I have is lvl 66+ Djinn. I did not expect to complete it at a higher level, mostly wanted to farm relics. Failed mid stage 3. My build can't easily handle ths increased level of the mobs. My Suggestion: -First and second ascendancy stop at a specific level, are repeatable, and can easily be overleveled and done later for players who struggle. This feels appropriately balanced. -Third Ascendancy: Do I go back and farm lvl 60 areas? That doesn't feel good. keep pushing maps and attempt higher level sanctums? That doesn't feel right either. I think the best solution is to make all 3 trial Djinns level 60. Players can then continue progressing through if they need to overlevel the sanctum trial, instead of farming level 60-62 areas. I don't think Djinns should be re-usable for third trial - don't want to make it too easy. At this stage in the game, some penalty for failure feels appropriate. Fourth Ascendancy: Assuming the way to ascend is a 4 trial sanctum.... I do think djinns should continue to scale after level 75. There are players who love sanctum, and should have the opportunity and be rewarded for doing harder content. Players will naturally spend more time in this level range and should also acquire more Djinns. TLDR: Ascendancy 1 and 2 are fine. They are repeatable at the lowest level. Overlevel them if you're a faint-hearted, spineless baby. Ascendancy 3: More than 1 attempt is okay and should be expected, as players need to gather knowledge/relics. Single use Djinns are appropriate - at this level, some punishment for failure should be expected. All djinns dropped with 3 stages (60-74) should be lvl 60 area level so players can continue to progress while farming for subsequent attempts. Ascendancy 4: Keep it how it is.
