Unable to socket Totems into Cast on Minion Death

As the title says, I'm completely unable to socket Totems into Cast on Minion Death, as shown below (the pictured totem is Dark Effigy)


Cast on Minion Death states that you "Cannot socket Spells which create Minions", which at first felt like it should cover that


But upon reading the Totem descriptor, it explicitly states that totems are NOT minions.


So I can only imagine that Cast on Minion Death is preventing the summoning of allies rather than the summoning of only minions?
