Single support gem limit of same type is awful
The inability to use the same support gem for multiple skills goes against the "any skill" philosophy in other areas of the game, namely the skill tree and ability to use any main skills, regardless of character class.
It also sound silly - I can use faster attack support skill in one weapon but can't in another same weapon unless I manully reassign the support skill. If you really want to restrict skill diversity, may I suggest the followings: 1. Allow max of 2 of same support gems in a build instead of 1. 2. Allow multiple for gem levels 1 and 2, 2 max for level 3 and 1 max for level greater than 3. Last bumped on Dec 30, 2024, 8:05:05 PM

Let the people build what they want, it makes no sense to restrict supports. |

I think the same, support gems shouldn't be limited to one for all skills.
At the current state of the game there's not enough support gems to use with that limit. I could understand one instance of a skill gem but one instance of support gems just feels bad overall and limits builds a little too much. To make matters even worse, we cant even upgrade support gems (no levels, no quality). It would feel better if it was a bit more like poe 1, as in only one instance of a support gem can affect the skill its placed in (so we can't place 5x controlled destruction in one skill but we can do it in 5 different skills). |

this game is worse than poe 1 in ever way.. it has better graphics and boss fights sure.. but it has worse gem system most skills are terrible or just dont work.. YOU get zero loot even in endgame maps.. you get 2 rares a map with transmutes augs and maybe so other bubblegum currency.. not a single person even had UBER LAB YET so GL casuals theres nothing fun about poe 2

" Yeah, I don't think I want to go back to that shitty PoE 1 system where my choice of weapon/armor is so severely limited by the socket colors and links I need for the build to work. I agree that limiting the support gems to "one of type x per character" is bad, but I'm glad that I can simply put on a new piece of armor or use a better weapon I find without having to care about those damn gem sockets. |

I think we should stick to that for now.
The issue with "unlimited support" is that some support will objectively be better than others and thus the same one will be used over and over. For instance, +40% AoE vs +50% AoE and +6s cd. 90% of the time, %40% AoE is simply better, why bother with the extra 10% at the cost of a 6s. However, because we can only have one, we have to prioritize and make decision. Too much streamlining and decision making removal leads to boring game lacking depth. D4 is a great example of what too much stream lining can lead to. However, there's obviously a need for A LOT of different support gems to compensate. There might not be enough atm. Support level II aren't strictly better than III. They're simply more "advanced". Let's not go back to PoE1 with every spell have the same 3-4 support Last edited by Cmagik#1657 on Dec 10, 2024, 3:34:50 AM

I hate this, I like the game a lot in many ways, but this is stupid. if you want us to use more unique support gems, make them better. don't force us to use the bad designs based on nothing. |

" Bruh, it is crazy to behave like this, toxic af. Also what are you even talking about PoE2 catering to casuals when every single complaint you have about it isn't pro-casual at all? The ONLY thing it's got is somewhat better clarity for new players. Like name 5 things that is done to "catter to trash casuals". Last edited by ShaggydogGaming#3009 on Dec 10, 2024, 4:18:21 AM

Agreed - it feels like such an arbitrary restriction too. Thematically, most characters focus on a single archetype, which means that they are going to look for support gems that belong to that archetype.
I'm assuming GGG's intention with the single support limit is to enable combos, where you have one skill as a "setup" and one skill as a "payload" to deal the damage based on the setup. However, the builds I'm trying out can have multiple payload skills that all take advantage of the setup, and all the payload skills need a similar group of supports. For instance, I can setup volcanic fissure with the inc duration and multiple fissures supports, and use a slam to trigger it - I typically have leap slam and rolling slam to trigger the fissures. However, both these ideally want a brutality, a conc effect and the pulverise support. On top of that, I have the hammer of the ancients for boss fights, which also requires the brutality, conc effect and pulverise to maximize its effectiveness. The restriction of a single support seems like an artificial difficulty imposed on the build rather than something that enables interesting builds. | |
" Not really. What it will actually lead to is players using only one skill. You will want to put the best supports in the skill you use most. That will leave the next skill with 5 lesser supports which means it will not be worth using over the first skill in almost all cases. |
