Spawning Zicoatl Softlock - can't retrieve Large Soul Core after instance reset

After activating generators with medium soul cores and spawning Zicoatl, and then dying & afking in town or instance resetting, no longer able to pick up new medium soul cores, quest is stuck at 'Retrieve the Large Soul Core near Alva' with no Large Soul Core.
