We did.
But "harder" can mean very different things.
I love the "harder" boss fights.
I don't love the loot scarcity.
I don't love the "harder" boss fights DUE to loot scarcity and poor gear - I want harder boss fights due to mechanics alone.
I'm happy with slower clear speed.
I'm not happy kiting a pack of blue mobs around the map chipping away at their health for 5 minutes to be rewarded with a single white item.
This isn't "harder" - it's just less fun.

Pretty much this.
My enthusiasm to play the game completely dropped when I got to act 2 with my Sorceress and I saw what a slog the gearing and progress has become cause of the scarcity of loot...
It's just not rewarding or worth putting effort in killing bosses or rare enemies just to get whites and blues.
And sometimes rare enemies drop nothing...

Control: Well I'm still on PC and mouse. I do have an abnormal (?) difficulty dodging some boss mechanics though so maybe that has something to do with it???
I am a die hard mouse and keyboard player.
I find WSAD awkward to use and I straight hate controllers
What helps me is that I assigned my dodge-roll to one of the side buttons on my mouse. I have it under my thumb so it's easier to react for me than pressing a space bar which I use for hold and attack anyway.
See, maybe it'll help. :)

That summarizes the tip of the iceberg.
Fundamentally I think the design for this game is rather dumb. Nobody wants to slog through anything.
Problems.
- Campaign time -- Nobody likes a big campaign. I started in 3.5 and people have been begging for almost a decade prior to my starting to skip the campaign... And you just made it literally 10 times longer. POE 1 campaign is 3 hours. This is like 30? Dear lord what are you thinking...
- RSI -- You've taken away the flask piano and made it 100x worse with WASD.... It's actually painful to play without controller... if controller didn't exist this game would be unplayable.
- Movement speed or faster movement on boots.
- Faster movement while casting
- Health and defenses on skill tree or GOOD gear to drop
- LOOT, GEAR, CURRENCY -- MASSIVE BUFF NEEDED, these barely exist...
- Better gem options.. gems are crazy limited by weapon... you've taken whats great about POE and turned it into some arcade game style selection. 0/10 here, the absolute worst decision..
Completely disagree. Guess we have different tastes :)
- I absolutely enjoy the slow pace and campaign time. Most games are rushy nowadays. I really like the slow pace which enhances the immersion. Though I grant that for seasonal replays they should speed up the campaign a bit.
- Clicking + WASD are very nice. WASD blew me away for range classes. I prefer mouse for meele.
- I like the slow movement. I don't want POE2 to become D4 or PoE1 that is too fast paced.
- I find good blue gear upgrades. Though they are not shiny as rare or unique, I enjoy the reduction of the loot fiesta. Though I would also approve a little bump up in drop rate.
- Gems are awesome to me atm. Also, as a new player, the suggested ones already allow for some great combos.

Combat is boring and unrewarding. The visual effects look much more impactful than the in-game effect that player abilities have on even the smallest and rattiest of enemies.
The little spider things in Act 2 taking multiple casts of level 5 spells to kill is just a massive piss-off.
Little chaff bullshit enemies should die instantly.
It's worth noting that +2 maps are a dangerous thing.
They can cause players to get out of their depth -
playing maps that are too hard for the items they currently have. Herp Derp.

Loot and gear are fine if you craft. I assume you don't.
I clear trash mob packs in 3-4 seconds. Your build is bad.
That's not a "game too difficult" issue, that's an "I built poorly" issue.
