Some Feedback and Suggestions for EA PoE2
Hello all,
As of having about 20 hours into EA so far I thought it would be time to give a feedback report. I am a "new to PoE" player so I have no knowledge of PoE1 to make comparisons with, so please keep that in mind for my report. Pros - I love the grimdark art direction so far. Music is very good. Graphics are very good and my PC seems to run quite cool for the settings all being on ultra with the amount of effects and mobs on screen. - I am playing on an Azeron Cyborg using modified WASD. Merc and Caster Monk both feel excellent and ranged spells and abilities are crisp and feel rewarding. Controls in general usually feel great, although I have encountered a few instances where the controls seem to hitch slightly when I try to flick to attack behind me or change movement directions very suddenly. - I enjoy the story so far (up through act 2) and I especially like the voiced log events you can listen to. I do wish that pressing continue would keep the log playing though instead of needing to click the ground out of it to be able to listen. Voice acting is very good. - Most of the bosses I have fought have had interesting mechanics and gimmicks while teaching me something new I expect I will encounter again at end game. Once again the voice acting on these is very good. - I usually have enough uncut skill and support gems for my taste, the drop rate on these feels fine to me. Cons - Melee - - Warrior/Melee does not feel good to play. I think the biggest issue is that I cannot move while attacking on most of my abilities like I can with ranged spells and attacks. - My melee strikes also feel very "stumpy" and I have had issues on more than one boss now where the boss moves backwards slightly during my attack windup and so I miss out of an indispensable damage window. Balbala was the biggest offender of this so far. - 1 Handed mace damage also seems very very low compared to Monk Staff, Sorcerer Spells and Crossbows. Two Handed Mace is better but really feels like both should do far more damage given the opportunity cost of both closing the distance with the target while putting yourself in danger of them meleeing you back. - Shield Charge feels bad to hit 1 small enemy and be stopped dead on it while enemies can freely push me and my totem around. - Lots of Warrior skills have a lot of animation lock in which you cannot properly "steer" your character. Shield Charge and Rolling Slam are both big examples of this. While I understand you may want the player to stand still during big "charge up" melee swings like Perfect Strike and Supercharged Slam I think allowing the basic attacks and many of the other animations like Boneshatter and Armour Breaker to be used while moving would make gameplay feel more fluid. This applies to other melee weapons and abilities like quarterstaff basic attack which locks you in place. - I am not sure I understand shields as sometimes when I block an attack it just works like % damage reduction instead of blocking the attack. The pyro boss in the mines has a wild swing that was almost oneshotting me with block up but there was no advertised "red unblockable effect" on the animation that I could see. Shield blocking also sometimes seems to just not work at all, but that may be an issue with the angle of protection a shield grants since I cannot see that, though it feels like a bug. - A lot of bosses have zones of damage they stand on where you cannot reach them, further limiting already limited damage uptime. This again benefits ranged disproportionately. - Gear - - I am a player who always 100% clears maps and I sell or disenchant everything that drops in a zone. With this in mind have found I am rarely rewarded for doing so, despite what I had been told concerning there being good and rare finds in corners of the maps. - With the above in mind respeccing feels prohibitively costly. I want to try things out but I am feeling punished for doing so. I am not following big streamers for builds or watching YouTube guides, I want to try and learn the game for myself. - I have found I have plenty of Orbs of Transmutation and Augmentation but very very few Exalted and Regal Orbs. Again, I sell or disenchant everything, so this is everything I can possibly be given. - I have basically no control over the modifiers my equipment gets and this feels really bad. +rarity feels like one of the strongest modifiers but I cannot get it with any regularity and this means i often have very poor gear for my level. - Elite mobs and some bosses do not often drop very good loot despite Elites often taking a very long time to kill depending on the modifiers. Additionally rings and amulet feel extremely rare. - Enemies - - The imps on the mines in act2 having a lightning attack I think may be bugged as it does 300+ damage. Likewise the grenade miners grenades will also oneshot if you get hit by one, which can happen if you are swarmed and cannot see the floor. These both feel unintentional given the damage of the rest of the monsters in the zone. Overall I am having fun and I hope to continue enjoying the content. Please take into consideration the above knowing that I am not trying to be overly negative about the game. I think It is a mostly good experience only hindered by a select few issues.
