Spirit, Summon, Minion, Witch
" If I remember correctly they ended up having to do this in diablo (can't even remember which, I think it was very late in 2) because minions just sucked. Something like 10% of weapon melee damage to minions which made for some very interesting melee necros. There were some great trade-offs and it really added to build variety. My issue is how low spirit is for the other classes. I don't like the "running away constantly" gameplay with a ranger for example, so I want at least two meat shields to work with, but bows are two handed so no scepter, crossbow too. Are there any one handed variations of the other weapons I can use with a scepter in later acts? I don't know. Just maces and wands for now. Are there late game options? Yes, but why do I have to play to 40 to get a few minions that I'm going to have to invest in the passive tree to make a viable build anyway? I think they can solve the issue with the passive tree if nothing else. They could drop the spirit cost of the skeletons too, but that doesn't solve the scepter problem. I really couldn't figure it out at all until I broke down and switched to the witch. Then I realized how little flexibility the current spirit system has. If they eliminated spirit entirely and just reserved mana per minion, I think it would be better than using an entirely separate resource. They can keep spirit for the other "spirit gem" skills, but I don't like it for minions. Last edited by Gigs#6884 on Dec 9, 2024, 11:48:40 AM

" This so much. I would love Spirit to just affect spirit gem skills, maybe a few special buffs for minions or something. It is so unbelievably and needlessly frustrating. I really hope they make some huge changes to the current system. |

Just hit end of act 1 with a minion reroll. No minion but SRS works versus the end of act 1 boss. My and skeletons' (brief, in their case) paltry chip damage isn't an option given the chase phases with adds and limited flask charges. Only SRS does viable damage (insanely viable compared to everything else given its minuscule reservation), and since it doesn't require corpses nor have the massive cooldown, it's at least functional.
SRS is so good that it could have a 100% spirit reservation. But what would be nice would something other than SRS working for boss fights. I think a minion build should be marginally more complex than a) a fire skill b) SRS c) who frickin' cares what else. The rest of my relatively attentive choice of passives, gear, gems and supports seems to be not worth. Last edited by Genstein#2693 on Dec 9, 2024, 5:47:35 PM

I started pure summoner and I did have a bad time. At the final boss of Act 1 I noped out and used SRS and the fire throwing skeletons. This seems to be the only viable setup.
Also kinda sad I cant turn my dog into a infernal powerhouse |

As far as I can tell, you can get 30+ spirit on magic and rare armor and amulets at item level 16 and they require at least level 12 to use.
As a brand new player, the journey I went on to discover this information alone brands this game as impossible for casual players to understand. There are no casual POE players. | |
Right now I'd say it feels like you get the worst of both minion and minionless gameplay as a witch. In that, not only do you still need to kite enemies around and dodge like crazy because your pets can't hold aggro/die easy but you also barely do much damage on your own.
