Melee feels "broken" for players who like to "tap" buttons. (easy fix)
After taking 2 characters to level 20, I went back to re-play the early levels on every class, and I'm finding it fairly easy, showing me that the difficulty felt by many players (which I enjoyed but some don't) is 70% a product of not undersanding the mechanics yet.
And when I say easy, I mean, fast-walking straight from spawn to grelwood and killing that tangle-miniboss there, stopping for nothing and wearing garbage gear. ----------- HOWEVER, I had quite a bit of trouble getting the warrior to consisntely attack things. If you *click* an attack button, and an enemy attacks you, it seems to interrupt the attack you asked for... but if you *HOLD* an attack button, that attack seems to "power through" the enemy attack. I don't understand why this is, and it makes no sense to me. I don't need to be holding buttons, a click is enough. THe holding doesn't feel good, makes the game feel sluggish on mouse keyboard, and makes me press really hard on the buttons trying to "force" them to do what I want, because a click doesn't work and i never know how long i have to hold them to make sure they followthrough. I propose the following change(s): 1. consider the current mode "requested attacks", where a momentary push of an attack button is interrupted by an enemy attack... remove it from the game 2. make a new mode, "directional attacks", where when you click an attack button briefly, that attack is committed UNTIL THE ATTACK GOES THROUGH as if you held the button -- in the direction you originally were facing, or you dodge roll to cancel... It will be AS-IF you are holding down the attack button the entire time. 3. make another new mode, "guided attacks", where when you click an attack button briefly, the it will be AS-IF you are holding down the mouse button the until the attack finishes for guided attacks - or you dodge-roll, without having to hold down the mouse button. (for rolling slam for example) Make a pulldown in settings to select your attack mode....I personally see no reason for #1 to exist in the game AT-ALL, so I would have the pulldown include "control mode default", "directional attacks", "guided attacks". the "control mode defaults" would be: click-to-move: directional attacks controller: guided attacks WASD: guided attacks (or directional attacks based on playtesting) IMO, this would eliminate most of the clunkiness felt by people in melee, and mostly eliminate the feeling of being swarmed while your character does nothing. (because if you hold down your attack button today, you will "power through" that swarm to a degree, so this makes the default behavior) P.S. Players who struggle with melee, consider holding down your attack buttons until the attack finishes. Last edited by KuroSF#6521 on Dec 8, 2024, 2:19:09 PM Last bumped on Dec 31, 2024, 11:03:39 AM

If this is true, That explains a lot of the complains about the game being too difficult.
Because I play as a witch and I'm not finding it difficult. Challanging? yes.. but doable. |

Yeah... I felt the same way, because i started ranger.. and i just breezed through until bosses... sure I died 10 times by end of Act 1, but these were expected growing pains as I learned the new game...
The bosses are a bit harder for sure... but playing MELEE, if you are button-tapper (not holder) then your character keeps getting swarmed and standing there glitching doing nothing. Monk, however, has a sort-of mid-range caster feel, because his attacks have range. I would sometimes get swarmed on monk, but avoided it with positioning. Then I played a fresh warior, and OMG, my attacks kept getting cancelled, ebcause rolling slam puts me right in the middle, and then tapping attacks literally doesn't work.... Once I learned to *hold* attacks the warrior feels like a beast... but frankly, I don't want to hold attacks, and it's also not my instinct... and I can see how this would really not be obvious to many players. The only reason I even tried holding attacks is that the rolling slam tooltip says you can guide the attack if you hold it.. so I started trying that out, and WOW, suddenly nothing is getting cancelled.. Please bump so they fix this. |

+1 I'm feeling a lot of pain as warrior on "The Dreadnought" map in act 2 as I can't get my Boneshatters in.
