Trial of Chaos is the single worst experience I've had in ARPG as a ranger
" You literally just said what your problem is: its not POE1. I agree ultimatum is badly balanced for ACT 3. However, these are not the same games. You have to wipe POE1 from your brain and approach this as its own thing. People came in with expectations they would just pick up gear and power though the acts...like POE1. That CLEARLY is not what was intended. If you don't like it, don't play it. But, we are in EA, so things will likely be different on release. I would caution jumping the gun. But POE1 has ways to trivialize and outscale the leveling content so fast that you barely need to be awake. Its passive gameplay. What a lot of POE1 players lack is active gameplay skills. You can be great at spreadsheet simulator but suck at active combat. That seems to be a lot of the complaining (other than drops). This whole doomer attitude is getting old. You act as though there will be no changes or tuning. Heck, they haven't even shown us all the classes. Perhaps you should be patient and not so judgemental when we don't know anything about what is going to happen....or late game for that matter. If you have played POE1 that long (myself included) you remember how tedious the game was back in its early days. But its gone though 10 years of development to get to the overbloated zoom zoom mess it is today. I'm happy its more streamlined, because most people just brainlessly follow a build guide anyways. Its not like 99% of the playerbase is doing anything remarkable. They pick the meta and do that. We also need a loot filter just to play the damn game, there are way to many currencies. I'm looking forward to see how GGG has innovated. This is the beginning of the journey, not the end. |

Mechanic is over-tuned. Biggest example being volatile orbs on mob death have 0 second delay on explode. So theres literally no way to dodge em except to run away and wait for em to detonate when they reach expiry time.

" Yeah ok, we talk again when you actually try to get your third ascendancy. Good luck, muhahahaha |

if you felt that as a ranger. good luck killing birb boss before it goes NADO. once it cast you're just dead. No AoE that big in game should be a one shot, but with all the insane bullshit mods we get in this shitty mechanic they are.

I didn't really enjoy running the labs very much.
Now its sanctum and this crap. Sanctum is a bit better now, but Ultimatum got a million times worse. When watching the reveal I got sad when sanctum was the new ascendancy. Felt some hope when Ultimatum was another method. Its hard for me to believe that I prefer to run sanctum... SANCTUM over this. Now I've got nothing I enjoy running for Trials. At least with Honor you're just dying slowly. With new Ultimatum you look at three buttons that just flat out kill you. I miss labs. I don't wanna see what they do to labs in PoE2. Please PLEASE let the third method actually be a fun one. |

" birb boss actually mega dumb, feels like a dps race or smth because eventually the shit you can't (?) outrun starts falling from the sky and boom, hp bar is green and losing large chunks and then you're dead. tried it again at lv46 yesterday, still not enough dps, gonna have to wait for better gear lmao. even if it's possible to actually avoid that attack somehow, there's really little incentive to experiment thanks to the fact that you have to clear 3 stages before it. and VAAL CORES omg, wish for a rework or deletion of this trial/challenge entirely, it's so fkn slow and on top of everything else animation locks you in place while you're putting the core in, letting the mobs that spawn have plenty of time to damage / kill you or making ultimatum stuff that spawn under you / chase you in some way also have plenty of time to damage / kill you unsure if that part specifically was playtested much, it really needs change to stop being so annoying |

I feel same as you do. ranger feels awful at trial of chaos. I swapped my build around and now when we at least have some monsters drop something I believe that going bit more into evasion and armor is for survival more necessery than having resists.
I dont mind mechanics of the trial just affixes are bit too harsh. Monsters are pretty strong on their own and difficulty skip from previous location is very very noticible. tbh Im not so good arpg player but ive had fun playing PoE 2 even without recent loot changes. Yet this trial got me hard stuck for a day and half. If I get trough the challenges (1-3) I die on the boss (no hp sustain going out of flasks) and I have to repeat the chalenges which one of 5 tries gets me to boss just to die again... The game's difficulty is generally good, I dig it, but the Chaos Trial feels unfair. Here's why:
Difficulty and Choices The Desert Trial offers a nice balance of risk and reward. You can choose rooms and relics strategically. However, the Chaos Trial feels like a death trap with no meaningful choices. Suggested Improvements: - Make trial modifiers less punishing - Offer choices between minor and major penalties that impact rewards - Allow players to skip penalties but receive no loot - Reduce time-consuming animations between fights. The biggest issue is that the Chaos Trial: - Requires very specific character builds - Is mandatory for character progression - Doesn't allow all character types to succeed The trial highlights broader combat issues in Path of Exile 2: - Limited defensive and movement skills for most classes - Some classes lack tools to escape dangerous situations - Defensive spirit skills often feel weak Recommendations for Developers: - Introduce more defensive and movement skills across classes at lower tier - Create more varied weapon skills (Like a parry/deflect/riposte skill with quarterstaff that add block chance) - Consider making skills like the Monk's "after image" more practical (Make it a minion skill so you could play with more support gems, could transform it as a bomb with minion instability etc... right now only usefull vs boss and very limited use) While the combat is enjoyable, players need more survival tools to fully appreciate the game's complexity. |

Heavily agree on this. Trials of chaos is insufferable.
You can be doing completely fine, then boom, one shot from nowhere with an unavoidable attack. Tons of time wasted, no reward, zero satisfaction. This is a lose-lose for the game and the player. Yes, I understand its the risk/reward of staying, but I mean literally you can be doing fine, then just be completely ended by some random bs you have no control over or ability to calculate in that risk/reward decision. Forcing the player to try and go through 4 rounds of this, over and over, so early in the game will make so many people ragequit its not even funny. So many parts of this game punish the player for choosing the wrong class, its no surprise almost everyone goes with the same 3 things. Either make the required part easier, or make an alternative, because this gameplay SUCKS. ALSO if you're doing the stone altar thing, and there is a rare monster on one of the pillars, it is IMPOSSIBLE to put the soul thing into the altar before you get obliterated, you cant even put up ice walls as to block it, cant trap it, cant pin it. It feels like not a single person ever tested this. I've resorted to just outright letting my character die and trying again any time I get a bad modifier.
