Suggestion - movement tutorial (moving while using skills + circle strafing)
I strongly suspect that this aspect of the game is making the biggest difference to success for players, and appears to be relatively unique to POE2 (although I think I did this to a lesser extent in Lost Ark).
POE1, D2-4 and LE don't require this level of positional acuity and a lot of players are used to standing there and *then* using skills, and with the mob difficulty this technique is almost a requirement to achieve basic competency (and inter alia, enjoyment). One of those in-game tutorial mini-vids etc.. aught to do it, with maybe a basic 'tutorial technique' boss / encounter and a high emphasis that this is required as a core play mechanic might help have an outsize influence on the more negative feedback being received by the less experienced / skilled players. I think it's cool to encourage the movement mechanics, but our character is always slower than any mob, and in the process of circling and using a skill, we lose even more movement speed, while the mobs simply surround us along with the boss.
The collision mechanics and bosses constantly spawning mobs make boss fights frustrating instead of challenging and epic. | |
hmmm - if you're circle strafing correctly, all mobs (trash to boss) should almost never hit you; you still need to dodge major telegraphed attacks though, of course.
I found that you need to overcome the 'omg they're in my face' freak out and circle strafe / spiral out, yes you move slower but once they're in close / medium range, it's a moot point and circle strafing properly should still allow you to move faster than the AI can aim. Adds shouldn't be overwhelming you - if they are, the root cause is dps (ie are you using your skills' synergies?). I'm on merc for example and will wipe adds in 2 -3 shots - Frost bolts and freeze at least 1 add, then Fragmentation aimed at the frozen enemy, and the resultant shrapnel burst should wipe them, or maybe leave 1 with like 20% hp left. And moving at all times, even if not circle strafing, to at least make the AI line them up for you |
