Collision with enemies makes the game go from slow/deliberate to clunky
Love the game overall so far. The early bosses could do with some tuning if you don't want new players to get frustrated and bounce off the game, but otherwise it all feels very appropriate. I love the design of skills and skill gems and combat overall feels great except some moved could do with a slight speed up (looking at you rolling slam/earthquake).
Currently there's one glaring issue with the feel of combat and movement in general and it's the body blocking. I understand that it functions as a punishment for poor positioning and technically adds a layer of decision making, but it feels horrible. It's quite common to get surrounded as a melee character with the very low base movement speed in this game, and once you do it is for all intents and purposes a root/stun. The jarring feeling of not being able to move the character at all instantly changes what was a smooth feeling gameplay experience to being stiff and clunky. It's a well established fact that loss of control of the character is one of the worst feeling gameplay scenarios you can set up and feels extremely bad when it leads to your death. Having it happen so frequently is just not a good idea. Even in less extreme cases it feels really bad, like when you're trying to navigate a map with narrow hallways and a mob or two completely stop you from moving forward. I'm not going to suggest solutions to the problem, because I'm sure you've already thought of 10 better ones. I just sincerely hope you reconsider how this works in game. Even as someone I'd say is the target audience of this game it makes the gameplay feel so bad I almost logged off for the night. Last bumped on Dec 7, 2024, 4:11:51 AM
