Reload Currently Equipped Ammo skill
When you equip a crossbow, you get a "Basic Bolt" and "Crossbow Shot" skill.
I would recommend adding an (optional) "Reload Currently Equipped Ammo" skill, which will allow us to play the game more like a traditional action-game, using one set of buttons to select our ammo skill, and then use one button to reload the currently selected skill. I would not remove the ability to use a currently "equipped" ammo skill to reload, just add a dedicated reload skill for more flexibility. Last bumped on Jan 5, 2025, 10:04:35 AM

I agree with this suggestion. I also think that your bolts should reload once you haven't used the fire bolt skill in like 10 seconds. That way you also don't go into a fight with only 1 bolt in the magazine and get messed up.

I am in Act 2, and I am (for the most part) enjoying Mercenary and the concept of the different ammo types, but I agreed that I desperately need a dedicated Reload Current Ammo skill button. because muscle memory from hours upon hours of literally every other action game with guns has taught me that there should be ONE button to reload whatever I have currently equipped, and so I will sometimes instinctively mash that button (X on my gamepad) and accidentally load into that ammo type instead of reloading the current skill by tapping its button.
I realize that is partly player skill issue -- but, again, the expectation is that: you give me a weapon with ammo types, you give me buttons to swap that ammo, I should have (1) button to Reload, instead of a dozen different reloads (but also add "swapping to the skill reloads that skill's bolts in full" as suggested elsewhere) |
