Built in user-made guides akin to Dota 2?
I think this could be a really cool system for people who want to play a bit more casually and don't want to spend so much time on theorycrafting.
In dota 2 any person can create a guide for a build, and the community can vote on it if they think it's a good build or not. If you choose to "activate" a guide it will automatically highlight talents and skills as you play. What do you guys think about this? Last bumped on Dec 4, 2024, 11:00:06 AM

I definitely have a problem with the game recommending specific guides for players to check out, but an integrated UI to highlight the appropriate passive tree nodes and support gems sounds like a great idea. My objection here is only that I think it's very important for players to actively choose what it is they are playing, but after they make the choice to seek out and find a specific build guide there's no real downside to saving players the trouble of alt-tabbing into Path of Building.

I haven't played DOTA 2 in years .. but I have recently played Deadlock, which probably has a similar system, and I really liked it.
I love not having to exit the game and scour the internet for guides. I also like having the guide integrated into the game. I think this would be a great idea. |

these games a very different from poe though
they are much much simpler with items and skills ofc help for new players is good, but it simply isnt as easy to make a good helper compared to dota or deadlock |

" huh? Can you not just export someones current character? Then import it? It seems rather easy. The difficult part (not that hard) is to figure out a UI that shows both your desired build, and your current one. |

" Anyone trying to do this is headed directly for failure, and it's the biggest reason I tell people not to copy paste builds from PoE ninja. If you don't want to play around with systems until you learn stuff on your own, you need to find an actual build guide made by someone reputable. Builds don't just spontaneously come into existence fully formed, with all their upgrades finished and passives unlocked. What order do you take passives in MATTERS. What order you get your big ticket items in MATTERS. And most decent players will go through multiple iterations of both anyway, especially crit builds, because investing in crit early is extremely inefficient and makes the campaign and early maps needlessly difficult. I literally don't know the last time I didn't take RT, PT, or EO early on a build which specced out of them by level 80, simply because it makes the leveling process that much smoother. This is why I said earlier that integrated UI options are a great idea, but nothing beyond that. It's not about gatekeeping, it's about stopping uninformed and unknowledgeable players from being directed into horrible choices while thinking they're doing everything right.
