Account Linking Help

So essentially, I bought the POE 2 Early Access on this account and obviously got the points and MTX for it. I sort of assumed that this account was already linked to my steam account but, it isn't. Instead there's an older one I completely forgot about. Is it possible to unlink the older account and allow me to link this one to my steam instead? Or would I have to merge them? If so, what does merging accounts actually do?
