The auto-loot button
I have a suggestion here that came to mind.
Make an auto-loot button (maybe the ~ key next to the number 1 key). This button, when held, would make the character go towards the interesting items in range and collect them. If you stop holding the button this action would be interrupted immediately. Let's say you're farming and killed a big pack of enemies that dropped a lot of stuff. Instead of manually clicking the stuff on the floor you could just use the button and it would pick up stuff that you normally would. There should also be a priority. If you're playing as a group of course you wouldn't want your auto-loot button to pick up a chromatic orb before an exalted. So there would be a priority, maybe customizable. It should be something like "mirror of kalandra > exalted orbs > divine orbs > unique items....> chromatic orbs > scrolls of wisdom...". When holding the auto-loot button only the items that will be picked up are highlighted, so you'd see what you're picking up. This would also help players with higher ping or slower computers to pick up their stuff quicker when in a group. Doesn't fit the higher level spirit of the game, wherein your loss (a misclick on a coveted item) is another, better clicker's gain. I.e., the current mechanic you want to make go away is working as intended.
That said, I do want you to know that I support your desire to play the game without such features. The Dev's recently announced in their Manifesto that they are planning more loot options. While I doubt they will cave and create instanced loot, if they did, that would help you with the problem you are outlining. --C |

i imagine that there could be loot options for groups. when you create group you can manage type of loot outside of instance only. there could be FFA, Round Robin, Loot to Name, Maps to Maker, ...

" I do understand this point of view. But we have also to agree that many players end up losing their loot because of that. Farming docks with 6 players including summoners, the screen gets crowded with enemies, spells and the floor packed with items. At this point let's say a high orb drops for a certain player that has a low/mid-end computer and a 400ms ping because the party leader is on the other side of the world. There's a considerable chance that he will not be able to pick up that item in time simply because he has a huge technical handicap. How do I farm docks? I create a party myself, so I get 60ms ping, and I also name the party something like "Docks XP, ninjas welcome" because I know that with that ping and my computer (quite decent) I will be able to get a lot of loot that the other players can't get in time. |

It would also make ninjaing easier as you can just spam the button nearby a drop.
Not speaking against the option. I think it's ok to add in. Just saying that it won't really help with ninjas. of course, since the Manefesto shows that you won't have to deal with them if you don't want to in the future, it's a moot issue. There's a fraction of players who like consistency and predictability: killing boss X will yield item Y.
This game really isn't for people like that. This game is for people who'll do the same area over and again because they know..., a Mirror can drop anywhere, anytime. - CharanJaydemyr |

" But the idea here is to prevent the ninjaing. As soon as something good drops for you, all you have to do is hold down the loot button and your character will run straight to the item and pick it up. Once again my suggestion protects those who have lower end computers and lagged connections. Players with good rigs and low ping will always be able to be right next to the item to get it as soon as it becomes available. Perhaps I have another increment to my idea: the loot button will only work when the item is available for picking up. In other words, if the item has dropped for someone else, the loot button won't work until that pickup time has expired and the item becomes available for everyone. |

It's a great idea! The game will be more enjoyable! |
