Monster Chaos Resistance values.

Trouble is it's at least a two component attack. There's no way to separate how much each component is directly, all you can see is how much total damage your hit is doing.

If you want to figure out exactly how much chaos resist they have, it'd take a long time. Go like this:

- Alter your build and gear so that you have very little regen and as much lifeleech on gear as possible.
- Get a weapon that's 100% physical and ditch any accessories or other items granting you any other kind of damage (really, equip a white decimation bow or something)
- Now get fraps running and isolate out exactly one of the kind of monsters you're testing on. Let it hit you a couple times, then shoot a couple times. Don't kill it. Conversion trap him, throw up a rejuvenation totem, let him heal up. Repeat. Just be aware that you yourself need to be outside the radius of the rejuv totem or you're going to screw up your results.
- Get a running total of how much total leech you got out of something like 30 hits. You can use this to figure out total damage dealt. It'll be complicated, you'll have to frame by frame to account for damage you took when the monster hit you.
- Now that you have total damage dealt, use your character screen tooltip and multiply average by 30. This is how much damage you would have probably dealt if the monster had 0 reduction.
- Use this to calculate its average reduction percent against your attack.
- Use that to calculate the monster's actual reduction rating (you have: average damage per hit, reduction percent, you can calculate reduction rating)

.........

Now you know its DR.
That's the first half of the process, if you can get there we'll talk more :)
There will be some really annoying rounding for leech, probably. I don't know how it works exactly. But you'll have to do enough damage per hit that you're getting a lot of life back each time, or your numbers will be way off.

hope it's a good start. You up for this?

I decided to test this using a different method: Righteous Fire totems and Poison Arrow. This controlled for the damage ranges of attacks/spells by using skills with flat damage per second, and also used Quill Rain to ensure errant hits caused minimal damage (only 3-8). The method was to go to the Terraces and compare the ratios between how many RF totems were needed to kill zombies (natural cold resist) versus scavengers/Firefury (natural chaos resist), to the number of poison clouds needed. In short my estimates for chaos resistance are ~25% (1:1.35 ratio) at cruel and ~35% (1:1.52 ratio) at merciless, but those depend on whether other monsters have higher natural resistances. The main problem with this method is the likelihood something hits the totem and interrupts/destroys it.

Data
Life at cruel: 1.3k
Life at merciless: 1.9k
Poison Arrow cloud dps: 28/s for 3.2 sec

Cruel Zombies: 1 RF, 4 PA. 4PA/RF
Cruel Firefury: 5 RF, 27 PA. 5.4PA/RF
Merciless Zombies: 2 RF, 17 PA. 8.5PA/RF
Merciless Firefury: 13 RF, 169 PA. 13PA/RF

Damn, problem is I can't really afford running FRAPS :/ It will probably drop my FPS to 10 or less, since I'm using a very low-end PC. Some kind of battle-log would be very handy in such tries...

I may try it anyway, thanks a lot!
IGN: Neonesis / Violetlight / Sirencurse /... I have too many alts...
I like to hang out in Global sometimes.
