I dislike the random settler death mechanics;

I lost a sailor to just pure randomness; there was 0% risk chance but one dies anyways. While risk/reward is an interesting mechanic, having just plain random entirely unavoidable death is not. Nor doe sit make for good gameplay, instead it's just a tediuos time and gold tax when there's already plenty of mechanisms that limit those anyways.

Please remove them, they're just bad gameplay. It's also very unfun to lose people when I'm attached to them, it's why I play softcore and finding the right people can take a lot of rerolls/gold.

yeah the whole crew dying and items being stolen is like "why are we even doing this?"
PoE 1 is the best. PoE 2 is something.

It sounds like a bug. If it's 0% risk chance, nothing should ever go wrong. I like having the risk, as long as the game isn't lying to me when it says 0% risk. I haven't experienced this.
there is a game called Oregon Trail and the mechanics reminds me of it. brings back good memories =)

Theres a line right below the risk assessment that says sailors being lost or the ship being commandeered are not part of risk.
