Auto Attack

I jumped back to League of Legends for a few games and I was thinking "this is pissing me off less than PoE, but I can't pinpoint why", but then it came to me.

I could press A, click, and let the mayhem ensue, if i felt like it.

So that bring me to my point.

You guys should at least have the option to set one ability (of your choice, or just whatever is on the left button? either way would be better) to auto attack/ auto target.

So if you are just tearing through some stupid white mobs you don't have to click each one, you can just let your guy do his thing.

I think this would be a very very valuable addition to the user interface.

maybe it could just be an auto attack key like you hit "A" or whatever then press the button of the attack ability you want to use and your guy will just go for it.

That only works for ranged. Because the hit box is so small in PoE, it doesn't really work for melee at all. They do indeed need to implement a small stutter step for this, whenever a melee attack is used: just enough of a step to get you into range of the hitbox.

And no it's not like "botting." It's a elementary quality of life feature. D3 has it. Probably all similar games have it. PoE is missing it. It's a head scratcher.

D3 got a lot of things wrong. This isn't one of them. For combat smoothness, action game play feel, and all that jazz, D3 is without question the apex predator of this biosphere.

sorry, auto-attack = BOTTING....PERIOD. Stop being delusional.
This is not botting at all.

The shift click for ranged characters allows them to move seamlessly from target to target while moving their position away from danger in between targets.

When attacking with melee, although if you're really concentrating it isn't as bad, your character doesn't engage every attack that they "could" because some clicks miss and are instead movement clicks.

Why should a range have more accuracy than a melee character?

I feel that if we hold left click our melee character should move to and attack the closest thing to them. If your fighting a group of similar mobs, why does it really matter?

You still have to plan to take out the ranged first (if your soloing) or whatever priority for the minimization of damage, it doesn't take away the strategy. All this would simply do is make the gameplay smoother.

I feel your pain.

The other guys are right, though; this would be a field day for botting. A lot of pixel-based bots are having extreme difficulty with things like this currently, and adding this feature would instantly remove one of their bigger efficiency obstacles.

Nevertheless, I agree that melee has some real control responsiveness issues. Holding down left-click is an obvious example; it should work and it doesn't. Oh, and in that case bots wouldn't become much stronger by enabling it, since you'd still need to find the monster.

I agree they should adopt League of Legends attack system, in a way.

1 - ATTACK skill keybinds can be Set to make you enter Auto-Attack Mode, causing you to continuously Target, Move To & Attack the nearest target when you haven't actively targetted in the last few seconds.

2 - A new keybind temporarily stops this automatic behavior - like D
This means you don't auto-target, auto-move or auto-attack.
2a - Alternatively, make D toggle auto-attack behavior, removing the need for 1.

3 - Make Shift stop movement even when a skill isn't pressed.

In League of Legends, when you're trying to get away, you must "untarget" your enemy, otherwise you might see your character move towards your enemy in-between movement clicks (and get you killed).

In Path of Exile, separating LoL's D function (stop attack & stop movement) into D (stop auto-target & auto-attack) and Shift (stop movement) completely fixes this.
