SST and Tinctures

If you use Seasoned Hunter with SST will it apply, to your shield? Technically the shield isn't a melee or ranged weapon, so will tinctures not work with the skill?

Pretty sure it doesn't work because even though you are using it to deal damage it's not a weapon and not a ranged weapon. I think it's just bows or wand.
