If Retaliation Skills work out well, Inquisitor Ascendency needs a little love in that department
Here's why I bring it up.
Right now, this is the melee rework, and I get it, and I get all the love Gladiator has for the play style. But the retaliation skills Glacial Shield Swipe and the Spell Skill Divine Retribution got me thinking, that there is room for more retaliation Ascendencies on the tree, and it actually makes a TON of sense for it to be inquisitor. Currently, the leg of inquisitor that includes Battlemage is really not often used, and even less so the one for Fanaticism charges. So my idea is this, perhaps for 3.26: First, change Fanatic Charges. Instead of additional cast speed, AOE, and reduced cost, change them to so that each charge grants additional cooldown reduction for all retaliation skills. Then update the Inquisitor ascendency node Instruments of virtue, from this: "10% more attack damage for each non-instant spell you've cast in the last 8 seconds, up to a maximum of 30%. Battlemage" To add these lines: "10% more attack damage for each non-instant spell you've cast in the last 8 seconds, up to a maximum of 30%. +4 to maximum Fanatic Charges. Gain 1 Fanatic charge each time you use an attack retribution skill followed by a spell retribution skill. Battlemage" And for Instruments of Zeal, change it to this: "Grants Skill Fanaticism" Description being: "Fanaticism - Available on reaching maximum Fanatic Charges. Using this skill allows for unlimited use of retaliation skills for 8 seconds in exchange for all fanatic charges, followed by a cooldown period of 15 seconds where no fanatic charges can be gained." I would then move the "Prepared Response" node on the atlas tree up to be attached to the same strength node as "Iron Will". The idea here is to make Battle Mage more appealing to switch between attacks and spell, and use retaliation as what makes it viable, creating another unique play style that relies on alternating attack and spell retaliation skills (which then would fit in with Battlemage's theme), and also, with what we have now in retaliation skills, it would also mean the Stormweaver node on the passive skill tree would now begin to make sense. Finally, because Inquisitor is indeed crit focused, I would change Arcane Potency on the atlas skill tree, either to just generic crit, or a node that allows you to "build crit" in a meaningful way by alternating attack and spells, which might work since most people not utilizing this ascendency wouldn't really benefit from that wheel - just a couple of ideas. Either way, I think this is a good way to give that arm of Inquisitor some love, and since I am not a dev, the numbers I gave can obviously be tweaked - I just wanted to get the concept across. And I especially love the concept of the play style having it where the player works his way up by alternating the skills, and then has a burst phase where he can let loose and go nuts, followed by a long cooldown before he can repeat the process, or he may just opt to keep the charges and the cooldown. In concept, you'd keep the charges for mapping, but would want to use the burst on harder mobs that are prolonged fights.
