3.25 Patch notes take too long to read

Not entirely because of ~30k words in it, the formatting could be better. And despite that many words, they lack explanations. You haven't posted the balance manifesto (the changes deserved it IMO), so the only place left to elaborate is patch notes. Examples of changes I personally didn't get: buffing crit chances of intelligence-aligned weapons, double AS buff of wand/wands skills, removing +melee range from melee skills. Some players probably don't understand why did you remove ancestral totems or Divine Blessing support, reworked Banners, replaced Overwhelm with ignoring PDR, etc.

While I dislike problem-solution format, some sections of the patch notes would greatly benefit from it. "Skill Gem Changes" section - the larget one - has tons of similar changes, it could help readers to skip them without missing the idea.
E.g. (I just made the problem up, no idea if this is true)

Many spells are too good at leveling, melee can't compete with them.

And magically it saves readers ~100 strings of text they don't care about. This format would also help players to understand the reasoning behind some changes, but I'd prefer you just plain write it before listing the changes.

Another thing that bloats the patch notes is transfigured gems. If they inherit changes from base versions, you could just add a note about this, without copy pasting the same.

Though current patch notes make it easier if you want to know if a special skill (or another thing) was changed or not.

And you can do this easily years later by googling.

Though in that case I prefer PoE wiki - that gives me more infos in the same time.
These patch notes are 100x better than trying to find things in d4 and last epoch patch notes.

People will always complain about something.
Just press ctrl+f and look up the bits relevant to you. That's what I did when looking up balance changes for anything regarding minions.

I did a little bit of research, turns out it isn't. When Vortex was changed in 3.23 to be non-instant, its damage was significantly nerfed to 779–1169 from 1209–1813 (at level 20), but added damage effectiveness was untouched (due to an oversight I believe). So now GGG noticed that Vortex's added damage effectiveness doesn't match its damage and decreased it. For effectiveness/damage comparison, in 3.16 Vortex had 833–1250 damage and 180% added damage effectiveness, both are slightly higher than in 3.25 version.

Since the main nerf isn't related to the identified problem, Vortex isn't going under this spoiler. I'd still keep Creeping Frost here, although its added damage effectiveness was a bit buffed at high levels. This case bring us back to lack of explanation topic. Short clarification in brackets would dispel any doubts about this change (not only mine). Because without the context, the change looks weird -> probably a typo (similar to Frost Blades), and the vast majority of players, even those who read patch notes, aren't involved enough to find proper info and connect the dots. So the context is often missed for them (+2 Cleave range buff that caused mass confusion instantly comes to mind).

To end on a good note, patch notes are now hidden under spoilers, so you're less likely to accidentally reread older changes. This is a good change.
These patch notes were well written and very informative compared to the garbage New Blizzard puts out with the hot mess they're messing up now. But I agree with another post that says the changes should at least be highlighted, italicized, or bolded, so it would be easier than doing a ctrl + F and get 8 results for the one thing you're looking for.

Regardless, these patch notes were a great read. Big props to GGG for the hard work, and when are we going to make Mark Roberts a saint of Wraeclast? :)

OP, you realize no one forces you to read all the patch notes in one sitting right?

If its "too long to read", then read one section at a time.

Even elementary school kids read books with 100+ pages in them.


More information is ALWAYS a good thing. And like others said, the only things that will inevitably be important to you, are the things you already know about. No one is going to sit there reading and memorizing every single skill change....when they likely have only used 5 of those skills in the last year. And what do you mean there's no manifesto? Every change is accompanied by the old values.

The "why" of the changes don't really matter...the changes are there, that's it. Who cares why? Knowing why won't change anything you just read, nor will it change what you choose to do and interact with. So "why" should they waste their time with the why?
