I didn't even think about this but its a great point, Staves would be great to be able to actually be useful for once in melee combat

Staves are played in elemental slams already. <Just an example of staves being useful for melee.

The point is it not being viable for glad block nodes which is weird. It being useful for other ascendencies doesn't change that fact xdd

In many circumstances, new gladiator is a 3 or 3.5 ascendency class.
bow/wand/staff = dead
claw = useless instant leech(10% is enough)
sword = accuracy seriously?
dagger = hmmm more crit is not bad but last time i played dagger melee is 7 years ago.
axe = actually 15% more in full dps, not bad but okay-ish
mace = maybe good but mace is hard to dual with others so that's kinda sad

if i do dual claw or dual mace/sceptre that means i get 0 dmg from weapon master.

I'm just going to assume you're trolling with this or just don't know very much about the game, Instant leech is very strong, as is 25% MORE accuracy since that saves you pathing up to Resolute technique. And you're right, most builds are going to be Axe Sword or claw. So lets just say for the point of the topic that you are playing a melee build with something that's not useful in weapon master, and now lets also say that you have no interest in using any retaliation skills per Measured Retaliation (which look to be very strong by the way), and now lets also say that you are not using a shield or dual wielding so you don't need determined survivor, then that pretty much just leaves cases like 2h Slam Bleed builds like EQ bleed, which are definitely a thing, and for those you can absolutely use a 2h mace which the AoE on weapon master would be great for, as well as the Axe bonus, none of that matters because the whole point of the post is to point out that in a game where build customization is the main selling point, you are bottlenecked away from a build that has been commonly played for years, and even if there isn't something that your niche build can use, you still have options that you are just choosing not to use, which is much different than having no options at all. And this is a post in the FEEDBACK section of the forums, and pointing out that a common build is lacking options is a genuine point of feedback. So you can say something is normal all you want but it doesn't make it true nor does it make it useful.

Weapon Master

should be have all Weapons, Range weapon inclusiv.
I'm playing dual wield non build retaliate because their is little support for staff or bows.

Otherwise I would play bleed bow. Still might, but retaliste skills shreds rares and bosses so far.

I think the weapon master node is perhaps one of the most restrictive ascendancy themes. It is really cool and I hope they support more things without making it a must take.

Honestly they could just add a mana/life gain on hit node or something and it would round out a lot of builds ideas.
I'll add the term "flavour" to the discussion. Gladiators/Duelists are often depicted wielding one-handed melee weapons and/or shields.

roman gladiators used a wide variety of weapons. from cestus (fist combat) to pikes and tridents and yes bows too (Sagittarius gladiators).

gladiator theme is bleed, retaliation and block. taking out options like bleed bow or block staff is bad.
