how did the lantern get past even the earliest stages of design?

I didn't even need to open a map to understand how much extra friction this was going to add to the game.
How did anyone think that having ui forced on you every single map was even a passible idea yet alone a good one?
It doesn't matter what the next league will be anything is better then this shit every single map.
If it wasn't for the fact that this is the first time in a year a friend was playing with me i would have dropped this so long ago.
And its so frustrating, it could be fixed tomorrow, just make it a toggle but why even spend the man hours to do that when this league has had the worst retention . . . ever?
Gee i wonder why people didn't stick around to juggle devoted and haunted modifiers just to run a map.

This is btw with me completely ignoring corpses as much as I can. The only time i pick one up is when it infuriatingly hides the item I want to pick up, which again how did that get past the first pass of development?

Mark comes out and says we want you to think we give a shit and this trash is what you pull out for us?

Delay PoE 2 another year and fix the game people are actually playing.

POE team are all coders, none of them is a real developer. many stupid stuff in game not even close to be balanced. they just code things in game without looking of their impact.

you are talking to a team that didn't fix very old stuff, just to mention few, like souleater or map boss that can kill your highest defense char without knowing what happens like cold river fire boss.

the game is like this and as said they are coder they will never change things. enjoy it as is :)

SO at a guess I'd say the lantern was a mock up of something they wanted to trial for POE2 as a way to look at map mods and understand what monsters actually do in the map. New map On-boarding so to speak. If I'm remotely accurate in my guess I'd expect something like it to exist in POE2's maps instead of map mods. It would (ideally) replace scanning map mods and not be added to the map mod scanning process as it was in this league.

I also find the added scanning before a map to be tedious, but I also hate the scanning of map mods themselves and can only enjoy POE using "alc and go" and the small subset of builds that can mostly ignore MOST mods.

I find myself wishing GGG would hire a real UI/UX designer though. Presenting information might be the weakest aspect of their designs. Repeatedly making the same UI/UX mistakes and endlessly re-creating bad QoL that works exactly like something they already fixed that also worked exactly like something else they had to fix. Visually presenting information with less text is something they are truly terrible at. They also love dark text on black background with small fonts. Like seriously Dark blue on black, Burnt Orange on brown character screen.

Can't wait until some of the guys at GGG have age related sight issues as I already have so they'll fix this and give some font scaling options.

Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.

why other leags was NEVER bugged as much as this 1?

its not ONLY bugs BUT OVERFLOODED with exploits and cheats!

lol also it took 3 weeks just to fix SOME exploits?!?!

14 mir per day! YEAH clearly need 3 weeks before fix or party abuse ins ulti or other stuff... why before GGG could even wipe/restart/reroll leag for SMALLER micro bugs but now its almost month to fix GIGA BROKEN ULTRA CHEAT ABUSE EXPLOITS?

Lantern isn't the part of this league i'd have thrown out personally.

If your on a decent~ish build and you ignore the lantern its fine most of the time is the simplest answer for how it got past. You don't actually need to read it that isn't that hard to understand.

they also probably viewed mandatory difficulty increase as a net positive when they want to leverage it in anyway but struggle to do so in a way the regular players accept.
wdym, lantern is great design. Just needs some slight changes
