naive darkness question

Does the inability to damage monsters in delve due to darkness apply to where YOU as a character are standing or to where THEY the monsters are standing? That is, if you drop a flare or are otherwise in some form of light, can you damage monsters that would be in darkness if you would move there? And inversly, if you are in the darkness but a monster is somehow in the radius of your light, would you damage it?

" From my delve experience you can not damage mobs that are in the darkness but I'm not sure if you can damage mobs that are in the lights while you are in the darkness but I think you can (must be some sort of "is in darkness" thing related to the mobs that make them not take damage when in dark areas). |
