Impale explosion damage confusion from new Transfigured Gems

I am looking for a concrete answer to the following: How exactly is the damage of the "impale explosion" from certain sources calculated?

There are 3 sources of this. Great old one's tentacles, Bear Trap of Skewers, and Double strike of Impaling.

The language on these is to the effect of "Causes Impales on Enemies to Reflect Damage to surrounding Enemies."

Taking the base 10% storage of Impale, and 5 hit limit, I have seen two conflicting interpretations.

1. It will reflect the "Impale Damage" alone, not the total stored damage. In short, only however much damage that the impale(s) adds to the next hit is used for the explosion. Having 5 impales that each store 10% for a total of 5 hits, will only explode for 5*10%. The max is 50% of the initial hit.

2. It will reflect the "Total Stored Damage" of the Impale. In this explanation, an impale with 5 hits remaining and 10% storage will explode for 50% damage all on its own. If you had 5 impales inflicted in the traditional manner, you would have a total of: (5+4+3+2+1)*10% damage for the explosion. A total of 150% of your initial hit damage would be reflected.

The latter deals 3x the damage of the former. If your impales lasted for 8 hits, it would be a 4.5x difference.

Call of steel is specific in its wording. It says "Reflects Physical Damage around each Enemy equal to the Damage of removed Impales multiplied by the number of Hits they have left."

Is that specificity not in these other sources, because it works differently? Or is it left out to save space and improve readability?

I'd love to know if anyone has done testing on this, or if we've ever gotten confirmation from GGG.
I still remember the beta-key timer.
