SST and Projectiles
Currently i have 8 Projectiles.
How much more damage would be one more? PoB doesnt calculate that. Is it as simple as 9/8*100=+12,5%? (at least for the SST damage part) And why does no one uses Nimiz? Is it just because its a ranged skill? Im bad at math. Last bumped on Mar 12, 2024, 1:29:09 PM

So I've played a few maps with Nimiz now and the damage increase feels insane.
Especially with rituals and essences it's almost a one click clear. With bosses too, of course. Life leech also benefits from it. The only downside I see is the difficulty to reach max chaos resistance, which you can easily counter with Progenesis. Or maybe Attribute requirements and mana costs. So I really don't understand why nobody uses it. edit: Sure before Affliction Vengance Cascade nearly eliminated the need for Nimiz. But now? Im bad at math. where are you getting your information about "nobody"? PoE Ninja? Because if so, you are looking at MAXED OUT builds that are likely not using Nimis because they already have so much damage it ends up being not worth losing the extra ring.
PoE Ninja is a really BAD place to go to see what "everyone" is doing with specific builds. It is far better, if you are looking for guides, to watch a youtube build guide that covers the pros and cons of everything, at every stage of a build. |

Since SST i extremely unpopular with only 0,1% Builds in Affliction there are not much actual Guides to compare.
So PoENinja is a solid source of inspiration. I watched a a lot of vids and some guides, started with Steelmage in Crucible. But back than Vengeance Cascade was a thing. Now you need Nimiz, which only 2 out of over 500 builds across all classes in the last 2 leagues uses. I'd call that pretty much "nobody". And since Vengance Cascade was a "must have" i find it reasonable to ask why nobody uses Nimis. Im bad at math.

inspiration yes. actual information and knowledge, no.
Your greatest source of knowledge is what you wrote right in this thread. With nimis on...you've noticed much smoother play and greater dps. What more information do you need? Are you going to ignore your own experience because of pictures elsewhere from nameless, faceless, information-less builds? Perhaps the majority of those SST builds that exist were made in the first 2 weeks of the league and then abandoned pre-nimis? Perhaps they were designed for bossing which doesn't require nimis? Who knows. THAT is the problem with going to PoE Ninja for "reliable" information. But yes, inspiration can be found...just don't copy what you see because 9 times out of 10....you are going to be VERY disappointed and confused. From a cursory glance (and through my own experience), there hasn't been any major change to SST from a mechanical standpoint. As such, whatever the benefits of vengeant cascade still exist today in the form of Nimis. The difference is whether you have a GG ring that can safely replace Nimis for better damage and defense even with the loss of returning projectiles. Only your personal build and your personal experience can answer that question. The only way PoE Ninja is going to "help" you in that regard is if you have practically identical gear to everything you see on there. |

And for the record, Cascade was only a "must have" because it was incredibly INCREDIBLY easy to get and no other anoint came even close. It is a WHOLE different world when it is tied to an ENTIRE item and not just an anoint. You can't really even compare the two situations.
"Best of All Worlds" anoint vs. "extremely expensive unique ring for 1 effect" are almost polar opposite situations when it comes to gearing and building. Doesn't make returning projectiles any less "good"....it just evens the playing field between the "have returns" and the "not have returns". Last edited by jsuslak313#7615 on Mar 11, 2024, 1:32:03 PM

The thing with personal experience is, that it can be missleading.
If i think returning projectiles are much better i might "feel" it. Confirmation biased exists for a reason. And even if not: how much better is it (factual) to justify a ring with 4-5 usable notes? - Added Attack Damage - Attack Speed - Life - Mana/Skill costs - Chaos Res I rather "know" than just hoping my experience isnt fooling me. Im bad at math. Last edited by LoTharios#3338 on Mar 11, 2024, 2:00:40 PM

I don't mean to sound like I'm picking on you, because I'm sincerely not.
But I respectfully disagree with that statement. The "feel" is EVERYTHING in an arpg. Whether the numbers go higher or lower (or are even optimized) is, for the most part, irrelevant to experience. Take a skill like "Heavy Strike": on paper, you could be doing hundreds of MILLIONS of dps....yet if the skill FEELS like crap, then that is all that really matters. Confirmation Bias doesn't really play a role here because 1) you aren't competing with anyone and 2) you aren't going into this presumably KNOWING that something is better (hence, your question right here). Therefore, the ENTIRE argument is about how it feels to you personally as you play your character. What I might find "better" and what you might find "better" in the exact same build can be wildly different and neither of us is "right" in the grand scheme of things. But an easy test: time yourself. Do the same map with and without nimis. Fight the Shaper with and without nimis. What's the difference? Sure....we can mathematically prove what options give the best dps, without argument. BUT that presumes: completely equivalent gameplay, targeting, speed, playstyle and ability, reflexes, content, etc. To be honest, and again not a dig at you personally, I think the mentality of "what's the right answer" is a major problem with current PoE players that creates many of the explosive current feedback posts. No one else, not even a program like PoB, can dictate what YOU will find enjoyable, helpful, beneficial, or suitable for your PoE experience. Numbers are meaningless if they don't equate to a fun experience. Last edited by jsuslak313#7615 on Mar 12, 2024, 1:30:41 PM
