Crashing to desktop frequently

Game is crashing while playing. Seems to be getting more and more frequent as of the past three days.

I don't know much about computers and tech so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt.
That being said, my PC should be decent. I've got a 3090ti and 13900K, 32gb ram.

There are three different types of crashes I've noticed in the past three days.

1) Most common (20+ times): the game closes very quickly and goes straight to desktop.
No error message that I'm aware of.

2) Less common: the game sort of freezes and windows says Path of Exile has stopped responding. Stopping the process or letting explorer stop it seemed to be necessary to get the game to close.
This happened many times for me at league launch during blighted maps and I chalked it up to my builds (ignite prolif and a zoo summoner with like 50+ minions)

3) Happened once today: the game gives an C++ runtime error message, then closes to desktop after I confirm/accept the dialog window.
I should note that the last two times I shut down my PC, I noticed a brief error message that looked similar to this one. After a couple of hours of trying to troubleshoot, I managed to get a pic of the message and confirmed it was the same one that I got when Path of Exile crashed that one time. The message appears for half a second when I shut down or restart my PC. It does not show up when I disable the "Google Chrome Elevation Service" in msconfig services. I have since updated google chrome and have not been able to replicate this particular crash or error message since, either in Path of Exile or on pc restart/shut down.




Anyway, the main crash I get while playing is the first one. Straight to desktop.
Does not seem to correlate with anything involving FPS/latency issues.
One time I crashed about a second or so into the start of a map, having warcried + blood rage + leap slamed from the starting position, crashing before landing with no monsters on screen.
One time I crashed after killing a boss.
Most of the time I crash in the middle of nowhere, either looting items or performing a miscellaneous task.

I have not crashed while managing my inventory.
I have not crashed on loading a new zone (ie: attempting to load into a new town, hideout, map, or instance).
I have not crashed while fighting a tremendous number of enemies.
I have not experienced any noticeable FPS drops.
I have not crashed (to my knowledge) during a lag spike.
As for overheating, idk what to check. Intel Extreme Tuning Utility says I generally experience no more than 74C at the very worst with PoE, but I'm not exactly pushing difficult/intense content most of the time.

My Client.txt in the logs folder has like, Tujen's dialog in the last line, which would have been just a minute or so before my last crash.





EDIT: Some things I forgot to mention... mind you I could have fumbled any of these:
-updated nvidia drivers
-windows update
-firewall exceptions for poe
-ran PackCheck.exe
-flushed dns
-deleted production_config.ini or whatever that was
-updated motherboard something or other

EDIT2: now it is much worse.
sometimes crashing on startup
sometimes crashing on loading into town
sometimes crashing on loading into a map (sometimes map portal is not consumed!)
sometimes crashing after 2 packs of mobs killed
(have not made it any farther than that as of this edit)

EDIT3:
-deleted my documents Path of Exile folder
-deleted x86 Path of Exile folder
-deleted %appdata% Path of Exile folder
-fresh install Path of Exile
-launched game, loaded into town, entered hideout, killed 3+ mobs of enemies
-crashed to desktop after killing maybe 10+ packs or so

EDIT4:
Disabled cpu turbo, same thing as before.
Sometimes crashes on opening the client
Sometimes crashes at or around login screen
Sometimes crashes at character select
Sometimes crashes on loading into town
Sometimes crashes on loading into hideout
Sometimes crashes on loading into a map
Sometimes crashes in the middle of a map
Sometimes crashes while standing still

EDIT5:
it magically all started working again
no solutions only magic
don't blame me; blame yourself. or god.

[Note]
That Reinstalling & installing on 2 other
hard drives did not fix the issue.

We have considered hardware failure & temperature related issues
but mostly confirmed to not be a cause.


Potential Solution has been found !
Should fix the fallowing crashes
* at launcher startup
* Gears menu before login screen
* as soon as you spawn in town after login
* when attempting to leave town to new zone
* loading into map ( not consuming portal )
* zoning into boss rooms
* crash near Blight encounters in maps
* Blight map , crashing when unique mob spawns.

The last attempt to fix the problems, has showed
the biggest success, in his long journey of issues.

[Required Step] Turn computer off for 2 minutes.
Turn the computer on, login like usual
wait for everything to load.


Visit this directory / address
C:\Program Files (x86)

Right-Click Grinding Gear Games Folder
Show more options , click properties
click the security tab.
click edit , click add...
" enter the object names to select "
type in the box
everyone
click ok

Grinding Gear Games Properties window
click Advanced
at the top of the Permissions tab,
you will see Owner : SYSTEM
click Change
" enter the object names to select "
everyone
click ok
click apply & ok on all the other windows.
Restart computer ( that way everything can take effect properly )

Run path of exile
everything should work fine.

Hope this helps.
We will keep you guys updated, if he crashes again.

If all else fails, Doing a clean install might help !

This one alone. I recommend to make clean Windows installation. Not repair, clean install.

Wanted to update everyone, and let you know.
original Poster played for 5 hours no issues last night/this morning.
Playing another 6 hours so far this afternoon, no issues what so ever.

Original poster also turned on
Intel turbo
intel turbo 3.0

The turbo 3.0 caused him to crash almost instantly
when loading into town, and hideout a few times.

Normal intel turbo seems to be working fine, no crashes for 2 hours.

Problem Resolved
* Change of Ownership : Grinding Gear Games Folder
* Disabled Intel Turbo 3.0 : in Bios

I also had this problem, I would crash every few minutes I played!
