Remove 'Detonates Nearby Corpses' on Strongboxes

Do I really need to justify it? Alright. I think this strongbox modifier is mostly just a punishment for any player who happens to lose concentration for a moment. It's way too lethal, and I think the delay in some ways can be more dangerous than anything because it has a different tempo to every other 'trap' mod. An example is, 'explodes' modifier detonates like... a full second? Detonate is maybe two seconds. So sometimes I wait for the 'explode' because I am off-screen, and then run back in, and then get blown up by detonate dead instead. If you are playing with rare/corrupted strongboxes, then you end up with situations where every chest has like 5-6 modifiers or something and detonate dead does not stand out in any way from the rest of them... sometimes it's at the bottom, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes I can scan the list fast enough when activated and sometimes I can't. So you just have to touch it, then run away. I am so sick of having to touch a chest then immediately run away and then basically just wait for the detonate dead to go off, rather than try and read all the text and then respond. I think this type of gameplay is just tedious, and it ONLY punishes you, when you get lazy or lose concentration, either because you are tired or you're being distracted by someone or something else. I don't die to this one often but when I do it's just frustrating every time. For this reason, the game would be less frustrating if it was removed. As a compromise, I mean... why not make it an implicit, or have it show up glowing and red text. Make it at least stand out! Please. I mean, how about a reverse and YOU justify why it SHOULD be in the game, because... I fail to see it, really I do. Last bumped on Jan 27, 2024, 8:33:59 PM

Well....its only a problem if you kill the monsters. Otherwise, there are no nearby corpses. Plus there's others that are equally deadly (with different damage types): frost nova and explodes. I would argue Frost Nova is way more deadly than detonates corpses because its very hard to judge the actual area you may take damage in, and it seems to pierce resistances.
There is a pretty basic strategy that EVERYONE follows for strongboxes: you pop it and then run, then circle back after a second to kill everything. If you aren't doing that, its just bad strategy. The mods themselves are easy to read, easily telegraphed, and give PLENTY of time to escape from. BTW....Detonate Corpses, Explode, and Frost Nova are all the exact same time delay as far as I can tell after years of always speccing into strongboxes or rolling strongbox watchstones. Basic Strongbox Strategy (something you learn while in the CAMPAIGN...): 1) Be immune to freeze or have an auto-freeze flask 2) Dash away right when you pop it Not rocket science...and not a design issue. I think detonating corpses is a fun strongbox affix. I unironically enjoy shitting myself because I opened an unid'd strongbox and barely live because it's fun to be a dumbass, sometimes.

" You would have to be really really fast... But you can also destroy the corpses with various effects and skills so they don't exist in the first place. Or....just run away. There is plenty of time and no speed debuff or anything. It is pretty basic strategy to not just sit there while taking damage from any source..."facetanking" is generally the WORST strategy you can employ, unless that is what your build is specifically trying to do. |
