Hammer of Lightning, LastDawn
![]() Since there are lot of "Lighting Templar" threads, here it is mine(this was my main character/toon) The porpouse of this character is being a tank wich deals alot of eletric elemental damage. The skills we need are Lighting Strike(+ Multi Proj. sg,+Added Cold Damage sg, +Weapon Elemental Damage sg, +Life on Hit/Life Leech sg, +Melee Physical Damage sg|We can use both Life on hit and leech support, but taking melee damage sg it's also sweet, I suggest life leech and melee|- use a 6 linked sockets armor for this) buff/auras: Tempest Shield, Wrath and Vitality+ reduced mana cost sg in a 4 linked sockets piece; Spark +Totem sg (If we want to use this for backup/cover damage +Added Cold Damage sg, + Multi Peoject. sg 4 linked sockets piece); Curses: more probably Warlord Mark, but Elemental Weakness and/or Temporal Chains are also good. And Endurance cry+Immortal Call can save you life in close situations. I'd use (obviously)a Sceptre(or Hammer, or Axes if you have enough DEX but I suggest Sceptres) and Shield. There are 2 Types of build, I have not decided yet wich is the best(feedback please): More str-tanky 87 points or this Int-ish, going for the lightinng nodes 86 points Please comment with your feedbacks and toughts. BUMP, changed build

I see you bought Lava Lash, but why?
You need to link Added Fire Damage. My recipe for a 5-link: +Lightning Strike +Melee Physical Damage +Added Fire Damage +Greater Multiple Projectiles +Weapon Elemental Damage Optionally, Lesser Multiple Projectiles stacks with Greater. Lightning Strike does not always lose effectiveness with multiple Projectiles supports because of the neat way it works (a crash bug related to this was fixed recently): Each bolt of lightning is a projectile so benefits from Pierce and Projectile Damage. My favorite part, is that each time you swing, there is no limit to how many of the released bolts per swing can impact 1 target. That means the skill has an ideal range at which every bolt discharged may hit the same target, especially larger ones. I've been using a Duelist with nonspecific Two-Handed weapons for Lightning Strike, dishes out some nice 1v1 DPS. Overall it's a very offense build, almost a glasscannon. Not posting my tree yet, I'm working on it to buy after the upcoming full respec. I'll try it out for Templar now. Lady Luck Loves a Trust Fall Last edited by Denninja#6883 on Jul 5, 2012, 1:49:33 PM

You got some really nice ideas here.
Could you "organize" a bit more your skills and slots you suggest ? Not easy to read. Thanks anyway, will try some of your combos. |

What kind of DPS should Lighting Strike be doing?
DPS Aura Anger + 5L : Lighting Strike, Melee Physical Damage, Multi-Projectile, Added Fire Damage, and using Blood Magic(since I dont have the mana to spam it other wise) 400 Mana, with Tempest Shield, Anger, Vitality i have 100ish mana left after my reserve. This is why I'm running the blood magic gem. 1,256 DPS with this combo If I swap out the blood magic gem, and use weapon elemental dmg I'm up to 2k dps, but I can only hit like once and Im out of mana. I decided that my first character in this game was going to be a Captain America templar. Thank you for this build ^^.
Lvl 40 right now and it works really well. There is one thing I'd like to note though and that is the high mana usage. Currently I have Anger aura and Lightning Shield on, which means 200 out of my total 330 mana is reserved. With Lightning Strike at a cost of 28 mana each hit, it is no big surprise I was using mana flasks constantly. Haven't found a reduced mana support gem so far, so I looked for a solution which came rather quickly. If you follow the second passive tree build (the dps one), check out the top right area with Fitness and Elementalist. I put in 3 points in 2x Mana gain on killing Blow + Soul Siphon. These 3 alone give me 25 mana each kill, basically making my Lightning Strike free, considering every hit is a kill on pretty much everything. Only for rares and bosses I need my mana flasks anymore. Perhaps with the right gear these points can be taken back later on, but for now this was an easy fix to a rather awkward problem (all this power, yet no mana to let it all out :D). |
