Health bars over enemies at all time.

You bring up a point here which I'd like to address (though it's somewhat off-topic, for which I apologise).

Just because a particular feature is "pretty much standard" in the majority of games doesn't mean that it's a good thing. I've read comments related to the fact that humans are the only race and that other games have elves and dwarves and that sort of stuff. Again, it's one of those "pretty much standard" things in other games.

Those things (other races, constantly visbile health bar, more inventory space in your stash, etc) don't make those games any better. It doesn't make them anymore unique and it certainly doesn't make them anymore enjoyable. POE has some truly interesting aspects (like the passive skill tree) and it is those things that mke the game great to play.

Please, GGG, don't just follow "convention" simply because there are some players who think you should. People who want to play an RGP that follows all of the current "conventions" (many of which are down-right BAD) should look to some current Blizzard titles.


So... even players that WANT this option shouldn't be able to toggle it on, just because YOU don't like the idea? I don't even...

Let's just say I'm glad you're not on the dev team for this game.
TYRI, I for one was under the impression that The Paw's post was an (entirely sound) argument on principle attacking the particular logic that "it's standard, therefore it should be in the game" - not an attack on the idea of a health bar at all.

That would seem to be backed up by the fact that Paw declared the point off-topic up front.

I never said anything about liking or not liking the idea. All I said was that following all of the current conventions isn't necessarily a good thing. I never said that the idea of a constant health bar was a bad idea. I said there are some "conventions" in place which are bad, but I didn't say which ones.

Anyway I know a lot of players will want this option. I certainly do. Giving the option to toggle it on or off will not hurt anyone.

Choice is a good thing. Some of us like "always on" health bars. Some of us hate them. The devs have done a good job thus far, I trust them to make the right call (i.e., allowing us to toggle them on/off)
This option definitely needs to be put in. And anyone who says it creates clutter is wrong. I've never had a problem in any game with health bars on enemies and most games I've played with this feature have way more mobs on screen than PoE. The health bars just need to be fairly small.
Health Bars REALLY needs to be put in. When partying up with a few people, or even 1 player with minions, it becomes impossible to tell wtf is going on.

If you put health bars in the game make them:

1) optional (players can turn them on/off) and
Adjustable (transparency like the minimap)


- OR -

2) This might sound like a weird idea but something LIKE if your character is facing the monster the health bar appears OR if the character is close enough the health bar appears apart from mousing over them.

personally I think the first option is better but I could see either.

I dont see how players know what to kill in parties of several people AND in pvp too! with so much going on, it would be crazy to not have something like that.

I could care less what the standard is. I would like to have this in the game; I think it would be very helpful. It's not always easy to hover over the right monster in the middle of combat, a quick glance would be much more intuitive.


Ideally, I'd like to see this as a mid-combat-toggle-able option, similar to the minimap. Let it be a bindable key with a default of say, ~ or something.
