Question regarding The Trickster's Smile helmet.

Maybe someone has knowledge if the helmet would work for physical damage that has been mitigated into a elemental damage source.
Example; 10% of the physical damage taken is converted into cold damage.
Would the helmet then apply the 4 seconds of 0 cold resistance to the enemy?
Sorry to ask such a silly question, but this helmet has me scratching my head. lol
