Player time vs drops casual gamers

Have you all thought of improving the drops for the casual gamers?
It would be nice to get some good, class based drops when we kill a boss. The grind is a bit long for casual gamers to get the builds setup.
Just hoping this is helpful for other casual gamers who have a regular life.... lol

Drives me crazy that I get drops for a Templar when I am running a Pathfinder....

Thanks for taking a look at this!

you're asking GGG to respect player time?

hahahahahahahaha

oh wait you're serious?

this game was originally designed to be played forever. for "hardcore nolifers". items are scarce on purpose to give them value and to make players play longer.

fun fact.

once upon a time, players discovered that they were weak as love. so they did low level farming. with their high level they could speed through lower level campaign areas that had easy map layouts and farm.

GGG didnt like that. they implemented a 6 level difference gap which penalized your drops and xp if you're above 6 levels of a certain area.

i m not sure how it is right now coz i m good enough that its no longer a problem.

also, if you know anything about standard. our alt gems just got converted to regular gems.

all the divines we spent buying 21/20 21/23 alt gems all gone to waste. talk about respecting a players time....

I think you've got Buckley's chance, but the concept is certainly meritorious.

The grind of the campaign is tedious drudgery. Somewhere along the way GGG forgot games are meant to be enjoyable.

There would be some pretty simple but effective changes they could implement to help address this.

Currently throughout the campaign we get some item rewards from NPCs - and they are always absolute dog shit. They could easily implement some of the unique rewards (or modified versions thereof) they used previously in certain races. Great for levelling, provide some interesting twists for particular character archetypes, but not so OP that you'll use them beyond the next few acts.

Realistically though, the best you can probably hope for is for some independent studio out there to mimic the PoE model to provide a similar game but without the terrible design choices that currently aflict it.

I think there's a prime window for such a game in the next couple of years as GGG will be distracted with PoE 2, the neglect of PoE 1 will grow, and the player base will be fractured making it easier for a new contender to offer an alternative that people will actually consider. Additionally, the business model for a relatively small game is now proven, all someone has to do is replicate it.

If I were GGG I would be worried about D5 or anything like that, it's a small new studio adopting the same model but executing it more effectively that would be their greatest threat.

GGG don't care about new or casual players.

You need to understand something: GGG is and will always be core-player pleasing company.

IF the core players / streamers are not happy, GGG is not happy.

I reco you to not play this game at all as casual, you'll get nowhere.

I not only agree 100% with you but I hope it happens soon. Love, love, love the pace & gameplay of POE; can't deal with all the thrashing about that ruins builds & makes it more & more difficult to balance offense with defense.

That's a giant wet dream for me. This exact scenario. I would be sign up as alpha supporter in a heartbeat.
Let each player choose which version of PoE to play:

Thanks all for the feedback. I enjoy the game and as we all know there are things that could make it better but GGG needs to find that balance between the casual gamers and the hardcore gamers. Seemed like a thought to get some feedback as I play the game more. More than 13 skill buttons would be great too but I am re-hashing all the things others have most likely brought up. Enjoying the game and plan on playing POE2 when it comes out. Hopefully we get some key gameplay upgrades.

1. Better unique drops. Based on class maybe???
2. More hotkeys(or mods to add them as wanted).
3. Able to change hardness levels. Like if I want to run the endgame at hard( level 80), harder(level 90) or wicked hard(level 100).

Anyways have fun everyone!

There's no such thing in this game as a "class-based drop". As such, this will never happen. You can run around as a bow-based templar just as you can run around as a mace-based ranger. Unlike other games, the vendors actually provide VERY good upgrades throughout the leveling experience. All you need is an essence and grab a white item. Or you can even make a magic item and craft a single mod on your bench and it'll carry you through a full act.

Plus....one of the worst systems ever invented in the history of arpgs is the "smart loot" system used in D3 and D4. Only dropping items of your class is dumb (imo).

This literally exists - white, yellow and red maps.

Class based drops would make no sense, we already get class based skill gems and that's been pretty irrelevant in recent times due to numerous build possiblites.
Eg: what drops would a witch get? There's a dozen different build archetypes on this class ranging from minions, casters, brands, melee strength stackers, cold DoT, poison, ignite etc. Class based drops only works on games like Diablo with fixed skill trees.

I do agree that they can give out decent rares, 5 links and generic low level uniques (goldrim, karui ward, wanderlust) out as quest rewards, don't see any harm in that.

Also, I mean this in the nicest way - I get a feeling from your post that this game might not be the best fit for you. It's very grindy and complex in nature, and people either love it or hate it. Not to mention a lot of your success comes from game knowledge [Removed by Support]

You can of course still play it and enjoy, just temper your expectations about how far you progress in the endgame and how fast you do so.
