For the love of Innocence, fix PC controller support!!!!
I'm going to try to be as constructive as possible, but the sorry state of controller support on PC is so bad it makes me a bit crazy and angry. Literally every other arpg I've played has better controller support than PoE. Even flippin Grim Dawn is better.
Sure, this might be a small niche of people who care about controller support, but this is a legitimate accessibility issue, and GGG is essentially just giving a giant middle finger to anyone affected by how piss poor controller support is. It would honestly be less insulting to just not have it at all. (I don't have any disabilities, but I get repetitive stress injuries, and using a controller helps with that. Except when it doesn't because the support is so poor...) With that out of the way, here are issues you MUST fix if you don't want to be seen as just flat out spitting in the face of anyone who wants to use a controller for PoE. 1. F*cking decouple kbm and controller binds!!!!!!!!!! Like, holy f*cking sh*t, why did you do this? Controller and kbm binds should be completely separate, but if you change one, you change the other. This is so g*ddamn stupid it blows my f*cking mind. Because of the way these are coupled, it locks you into either using a controller or using kbm, because if you want to use both, you have to switch your binds literally every time you switch. Jesus, this is stupid. Fix it. (Again, for avoiding RSI, it's best to be able to switch between the two. This is a legitimate accessibility and health issue.) 2. Enable switching between kbm and controller while in game! Again, why did you do this? No matter what, inventory management is always going to be better on kbm, but can you run a map on controller, port out, then manage your inventory with kbm? Nope. Haha. F*ck me, I guess. If I want to manage my inventory faster, I have to completely log out and back in. Make it make sense. 3. Enable binding skills to the dpad or potions to the face buttons. Pretty self explanatory for this one. I have no idea why you did it this way. Sure, it's a tidy default, but it's also awful. In a game where you're expected to constantly mashing all of your potions like you're playing DDR while also holding down left click to run at warp speed through a map, having to stop moving to take your thumb off the joystick to hit buttons on the dpad is just completely nonsensical. Fiixx iiiiiiittt. 4. B / Circle should go back or exit. Always. Again. Self explanatory. Menu actions should absolutely never be bound to B / Circle. That button goes back or up a level. Binding actions to this is disregarding literal decades of game UI standards, and is quite frankly the most baffling complaint on this list. Like, you have tons of other buttons. Use a f*cking different one. 5. Fix A / X not working to interact with things 2/3 of the time. Seriously. Even if A / X isn't bound to a skill, I usually have to hit the button at least twice to interact with anything in the world, because it just doesn't register the first time. Honestly this one seems a bit tricky to get down right, but it still needs to be fixed. 6. Fix looting with the right stick. This is another somewhat baffling one. When you get a big loot explosion on your screen, you can only scroll up or down like 4 or 5 items above or below your character with the right stick on a controller. At the same time, clicking on loot when your character is far away from it doesn't work, because your character won't move to the item. WHY!?!? Seriously? Why can't your character walk to the item? That's how it works on kbm. Why is it different on controller? It literally makes it damn near impossible to loot things sometimes, as if you're standing next to the item you can't scroll down to it, but if you move your character down the screen so you can reach the item with your cursor, you're now out of range of the item and your character won't pick it up. Like, JFC. In a game where the core loop consists of killing things and picky things up, how do you f*ck up being able to pick things up? It's literally half the gameplay loop. Fix. It. You know, this would be less of an issue if you could just switch to kbm for a second to pick the loot up, but jokes on me, because you can't f*cking do that. Haha. Good one, guys. You f*cking got me with that one. 7. Add trigger toggles for dpad bindings. You have left and right trigger toggles for the face buttons, why don't you have them for the dpad? Oh, right. Because that sacred area is reserved for potions for some reason. My bad. So, yeah. Those are the main issues that come to mind. Mainly 1 and 2. Absolutely 1. 1 NEEDS to be fixed. Like, it's not even feedback or a suggestion. What the actual f*ck are you thinking coupling them like that? Sorry for being so negative. I'm sure this isn't a priority and it's probably hard as hell to implement in a game that was never designed with controllers in mind, but come on. I like playing PoE, and I like playing games with a controller. It's just flat out aggravating how poor the controller support for the game is. I KNOW you guys can fix it, so please, please, make it a higher priority and get it done. Please. Last edited by Sextron#4709 on Dec 13, 2023, 6:54:12 PM Last bumped on Dec 15, 2023, 5:19:51 PM
