Soulrend of the Spiral - Still bugged - Not shotgunning when directly inside an enemy.
GGG, I am very happy that you fixed triggering with Soulrend of the Spiral, now my clear is good at least. However, the skill seems to be bugged in terms of its shotgunning. Similar skills with keywords like "series" and "spiral" (Eye of Winter, Vaal Fireball) can hit a single enemy with multiple projectiles, provided the source of the projectiles is directly on top of the enemy.
I am using CWC Cyclone with Soulrend of the Spiral and standing directly inside an enemy, but only getting one hit per cast. This appears to be a bug, so my single target is still awful. Last bumped on Dec 19, 2023, 7:04:26 AM

" Vaal Fireball must have been changed at some point then, because it used to be a thing to support Vaal Fireball with the trap support so you could throw it directly on top of an enemy, which would cause them to be hit by all the fireballs as long as they didn't move. The design of the Soulrend of Spirals at every level is a pretty clear indicator that it is supposed to be able to multi-hit in my opinion. First off, if it wasn't support to multi-hit, then there would be no point in having it fire a sequence of projectiles in a spiral. They could have just made it a nova that fires simultaneously. Second, they gave it an enormous cast time and mana cost, which would be a silly decision unless there was to be some sort of payoff for overcoming those downsides, like the ability to multi-hit. To go along with that, it does have much higher base damage than other shotgunning skills like Eye of Winter and Ice Spear, but that is justified by the fact that it requires you to be directly on top of your target in addition to the aforementioned massive cast time and mana cost. |

I tested this with 100% chance to poison and The Golden Rule, Viridian Jewel(poison you inflict is reflected back on you).
It seems with only the base projectiles Soulrend of the Spiral(so no other extra projectiles) provides, I can consistently hit 3 times(because I can see 3 poison stacks on myself per cast). With Greater Multiple Projectiles(GMP), this becomes 5 stacks consistently. I expected to hit 5 times without GMP and 9 times with GMP(5 and 9 stacks of poison on myself). This implies that "shotgunning" is intended, but somehow skips hitting with some projectile. This was tested on an enemy with a big hitbox, the Brine King in Act 6. That's an interesting finding. Something is clearly off with the skill. I'm hoping the upcoming patch fixes it. If not, I will probably finally give up and stop wasting my time with 3 minute long empowered map boss fights and just switch to a new build.

Well, nothing in the new patch notes. Would like to at least receive confirmation about whether or not it is supposed to multi-hit. If not, it is just trash. The clearing is fun sure, but plenty of other stuff clears just as fast and faster without having to overcome such an enormous cast time and mana cost. Everything about the design screams that it is supposed to have a big payoff like the ability to multi-hit, but I just don't know if it's coming at this point, and the skill is worthless without that because it has no single target despite its huge inherent drawbacks.
I toughed it out through 5 minute boss fights all the way to level 96, but I'm finally giving up and scrapping this to start a new build. |

Question regarding SoulRend Of The Spiral - I combine it with Arcanist Brand to see what the effect would be. It cast Soulrend from my body and not from the Brand that is attached to the enemy. Is this the way it should be? or is this a bug also? Thanks.

Just getting back to you here, the current behaviour is intended.
Similar to how Vaal Fireball works when you're ontop of a target not all projectiles will hit unless you move appropriately to make them all hit. Last edited by Jatin_GGG#0000 on Dec 18, 2023, 1:27:26 AM
