Occultist's Frigid Wake + Cold Mastery: Damage for each second Frozen
So I'm playing a cold dot occultist and the "Frigid Wake" ascendency sometimes freezes enemies for a short duration:
" This was changed for 3.22 https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3409617#occultist and previously the duration could not be scaled, except from temporal chains. Eventually this is fixed now. Question: How does this interact with the Cold Mastery: " This discussion is only relevant for lengthy SSF boss fights, maybe. Lets ignore monster ailment thresholds to simplify things. To get the maximum mastery effect, we need 10 seconds freeze duration (total). Every 4 seconds 50% chance for 0.4s freeze means 0.4s freeze about every 8 seconds. On average this happens 25 times in 200 seconds. If the 0.4s freeze duration would actually occur unmodified we get max effect after 200 seconds (on average). Thats more than three minutes and non-SSF players will laugh at this :) I don't care. I want to understand the mechanic here! If the 3.22 patch fixed the scaling issue, putting a few points into cold-ailment-duration could make this work faster. Any thoughts? Last bumped on Dec 11, 2023, 12:28:52 PM

This should all work how you describe.

I just found the southbound glooves (100% increased freeze duration) and quickly tested in act 10 with a single mob. The Frigid Wake proc felt longer, it seems to work now! :)
Guess I could allocate Breath of Rime (50%), the first Node of the Fingers of Frost cluster (20%), the Damage over Time Mastery (15%), and eventually anoint Elemental Focus (20%). That would be 105% increased duration and double the freeze duration. Probably not optimal in terms of boss dps, but could be fun. |
