Labyrinth changes make no sense

The more I look over the patch notes and stream, the more it doesn't make sense.

Who asked for the labyrinth change? Instead of adding lab enchant to gear, now we get gem modification choices from the lab reward??

What??

Is no else confused as to the purpose or reason for changing this system?

They also removed the Prime Regrading Lens and Secondary Regrading Lens. These were currency items that allowed you to actually switch the quality of a gem into something else.

Now you instead just have to continue running labs and hope that you hit the slot machine and get the correct transfigured gem and even then, the transfigured gems have little to no use as opposed to the alternate gems from Heist, so what is even the point of it anymore?

Once again removing any sliver of player agency or determinism. It's just awful.

Then they make it sound like the transfigured gems are adding all of the functionality of the systems they removed, yet it pigeonholes the new gems into just 1 or 2 functions when all of the alt gems gave way more agency over how you want to modify your support gems.

None of this makes sense. Why fix something that is not broken?

Let us zoom out more. Bring back 32:9, Heist Alt Quality Gems, Gear Enchanting, Prophecy, Metamorph & Crucible. Stop removing content from the game. Stop nerfing everything. Stop making the game slow

Who didn't want it to change?. It was incredibly unrewarding to actually run Labyrinth for helm enchants other than for Ascendancy. There were too many horrible filler enchants for helmets. You could just get enchanted helmets to drop from incubators or from cards. Now you can get multiple items that are rewarding in every run.

This change is amazing for lab farmers. An extra key per run is a huge return where as a random helmet enchant was purely praying to rnjesus.

I was gonna say.

Don't tell me you wouldn't grind labyrinth for 200m gem exp that is otherwise locked behind Tora's laboratory betrayal reward or Harvest to level your woke gems. That gives more options for leveling gems. We also have a way to create gems like Empower too.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish.

This is a really good point that I think way too many people are sleeping on. The availability of Enlighten and Empower just went through the roof, for both trade and SSF players.

That ALONE makes this change a big W in my books.
Many, many people have been asking for lab to be changed or even removed from the game. It didn't feel worthwhile aside from getting necessary helmet enchants and ascendancy points, and now - finally - it's content actually worth running beyond getting your last 2 ascendancy points in

It's a good thing.
The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.
Actually its a great change for lab. Old System had not much room for improvement.
With new System you can later extend to Support and Vaal Gems.

My concern is that all the good lab altar uses might be as rare as hineokra's lock were, meaning that the average player who only does like 30 labs will never ever see them.

My second concern is how they are adjusting the loot rewards from Izaro's chests and random cheests in the lab.

Sure, people were clamoring for the lab to change.

But mostly....for the lab to...not be the lab. Or to remove it entirely. GGG just double and tripled down on one of the WORST things currently in the game.

The worst part of my PoE experience is running the lab. And I have to run it minimum 4 times to create a complete character. NOW I have to run it exponentially more times to be competitive? Yea....f that

The whole premise behind PoE as a game is NOT forcing people to do specific content. Gating an entire massive system, literally the building block of any functional build (skills), behind the lab was a HUGE mistake.

I don't give a damn that "i can trade for the gems I want". That is irrelevant. The philosophical and design choice is incredibly anti-PoE.

I see the parallels to how alt qualities were previously gated behind Heist....I do. But at least Heist was a FAR LESS polarizing mechanic than the freaking lab.
