Very much the answer.

It was a program that would automate the process of crafting an item. The sort of thing where the question probably isn't actually "is this bad", but "would I get caught using this".

I heard that you can get randomly banned here. Out of curiosity, I log in several times a week every now and then and see whether I'm finally banned or not. Hopefully that will happen in the next few months. Because I have less and less time to play.

There are always exceptions.
and I certainly wouldn't cheat to achieve my goal! (in the next few months)

Clearly against ToS. GGG does ban for botting, though with what frequncy and how they detect it, is unknown.

The software was a tool that allows you to automatically craft targetting certain affixes targetting a particular mod or set of mods (e.g. alt spamming cluster jewels for introspection etc.)

It is interesting that this automation is bannable, but trade automation isn't. (e.g. automated messages like your trade is ready to collect, thank you etc.)
The lab overlay also wasn't bannable last I checked.

1 is a single action (i.e. TY for trade)

100% bannable. The dude even says it at the start of the video, that it breaks ToS.

These messages are not automated - you need to click buttons to do each of the actions. This is shown in the github pages for each of these tools: https://github.com/C1rdec/Poe-Lurker, https://github.com/Morph21/MercuryTrade-Community-Fork, https://github.com/zmilla93/SlimTrade.

The lab overlay doesn't interact with the game in any way, so it's not bannable either. It does interact with the client.txt and poelab.com, but that's allowed.
