Gemword or runeword?
I'm interested in playing with the PoE style of item-modding. It looks like it borrows from one of Hellgate: London's (only) successful innovations. I like, too, that it's directly tied to the currency.
Rune Words were fun, ONLY if you actually looked up the rune words. The fact that you had NO idea how to do it in-game made them pretty useless for those that didn't want to look up all the information. You were supposed to be able to experiment and see what rune words were out there, but they simply didn't have enough for that "experimenting" to work. They would have needed hundreds of words. That could have been an interesting system, though. Off-class skills ruined the frame-work of D2. More so, tele without a cool down being given to all classes through Enigma ruined the game. Dupers and botters were the worst thing possible for it. You know it's bad that to compete in the latest end-game content, you HAD to purchase (most likely) duped/hacked items to actually be able to do the Ubers. It was a final throwing in of the towel for the game. Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow,
Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow. None has ever caught him yet, for Tom, he is the master: His songs are stronger songs, and his feet are faster. |

" That's just ridiculous. It's perfectly possible to do Uber Tristram with just about nothing. If you really think that you need ten high end runewords to enjoy Diablo 2 (or any other game for that matter) to the fullest you have a lot to learn. |

Path of Exile sockets are not the same as Diablo 2 Sockets.
Sockets in Path of Exile are how you set up your active skills, not how you get more stats (generally). The system works off of base skill gems (the active gems) being combined with mod gems (support gems). So instead of saying "Fireball + Nova + Icebolt = something else", you take 1 Active Gem, like say Fireball, link it to Multi Cast, which gets you a fireball that activates multiple times in a row, linked to Multi Shot, which adds more projectile per cast, and Increased Fire Damage. The end result (at low levels of the mod gems) is a 3 way fireball that gets shot 3 times in a row at an increased amount of damage (or at least the increased fire damage gem helps negate the penalty from multiple projectiles). " Probably true, I stopped playing D2 after about 1.10. For me, the game was dying then anyway. I got a full Aldur's set on a fire claws bear druid, he kicked ass. Then it just got old. And believe me, I enjoyed D2 quite well without going anywhere near 3rd party sites. Or even much trading for that matter, just for the last piece of Aldur's. I definitely enjoyed the game to its fullest extent for me. So, I wouldn't know about the Ubers, but I was under the impression they were more balanced toward assuming you had higher-end gear. My mistake. Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow, Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow.
