"Damage with Bows" application

I'm confused about how "damage with bows" and "attack damage" scales with certain skills, particularly Toxic Rain.

The gem skill has attack, bow, and projectile tags, and the gem skill description explicitly says that the DoT scales with Projectile Damage modifiers.

Does that mean that the DoT does NOT scale with "damage with bows" and "attack damage" -- but because the skill gem has attack and bow tags, that the HIT damage (only) will increase with increases to those modifiers, but NOT the DoT? DoT will only increase with obvious DoT increases or modifiers (not poison though) and with projectile damage modifiers only?

Thank you. I cannot find a node I can reach which gives +x% to area damage, but I know there are jewels which do so. Do increases to +x% to area damage also affect DoT?

If you want an area damage node on the tree just to check PoB, Blast Radius and Amplify are 2 examples.

According to the PoB then at least, Area Damage *does* increase the DoT of toxic rain. That's good to know.
