Game still running like absolute garbage after 3.22 GPU-based particle system update
Well, it's October, and the GPU-based particle system introduced in the 3.22 update and the accompanying shader cache problems are still causing the game to freeze regularly as soon as monsters spawn. Intermittently, of course.
There has been a pinned comment in the Known PC issues section for a while now, but apparently, there has been no progress. Is this just how it is now? Some people just won't ever be able to play PoE? Or PoE 2 I guess, since that's the same system. I've tried every reasonable fix, and it's not working. This is 100% a problem with the update that is affecting some PC configurations. Not all, just some. GGG should at least give an update on their progress. It's unprofessional. Many of the people affected by this have been fans and supporters for a long time, and spending 5 minutes writing a damn update post isn't that much to ask, I think. P.S. Please, do not tell me: - That this is normal and I just need to clear the cache and run some maps - - Tried it, didn't work - To try a different renderer - - Tried it, didn't work - To mess with CPU C-states - - Not going to fry my PC when everything else is running fine - To buy a new PC - - ... - That you don't have that problem - - Not helpful. If you don't have that problem, good for you. System specs:

Still having the same issue. Thought I had found a fix but it wasn't. Running a VPN through Mexico, from south Mississippi has been the only stabilizer that works. Shader and Latency saw tooth graph since 3.22 patch.
I have accepted the likelihood that GGG simply is not interested in fixing this and this is perhaps just how it's gonna be. Pretty bitter about it but the boys at tencent probably pulled rank for the poe2 prep. We simply don't matter in the grand scheme of things. 7k hours in poe. No problems until 3.22. smh |

crashes the game when I use it Iridescent Wings

Yeah, only thing i know is that Multithreading seems to be broken, if i leave it on i have constant 1 second freezes, it's like 1 second freeze, 1 second fluid gameplay high fps then 1 second freeze and it goes like this, impossible to play like that. If i disable Multithreading i have no freezes but my fps gets much lower. I spent money in this game this thing needs to be fixed.

Yes to all of this, except the wings guy who got lost and posted in this thread.
Multi-threading is busted. Shaders always showing as downloading and drawing in textures that were just loaded two minutes prior. FPS in single digits in the Rogue Harbour because it's MTX hell there. As everyone else has said, none of it was happening before the cursed "performance update" right before 3.22/exilecon. And today's patch addressed none of the performance issues. To add insult to injury, the blight crashes that have been happening for people since the release of blight league have never been fixed and the issue was just removed from the known bugs sticky thread. Nice. Guess it's time to just get used to it. | |
" Yes! I could play just fine before this particular patch. And now... |

The only way I can play now is lowest resolution with FSR.
Latency this way is x2 higher to what it was on FullHD before the doom patch. Btw armor from chalenges is borked and reduces performance even more, do not use it. Last edited by gorioo on Oct 2, 2023, 2:37:09 AM

Ofc it runs much worse.
That particle patch made the game like at least 2x more demanding out of nowhere and much less stable. Not to mentioned other problems/bugs like multi-threading and what not. I have a different system now, which seems to run PoE OK'ish but I'm not playing. Afraid that something might fry. PoE after that patch became very scary and the devs literally don't fix or optimize anything. Shame. Stupid PoE2 Particle System Patch... Last edited by y3lw0rC on Oct 2, 2023, 2:56:09 AM

It looks like GGG ended up putting some "performance improvment" task on literally one Junior Developer who had a good intentions, but not enough experience to test multiple options to make everyone happy.
At the beggining there was a pure passion, a community luv when everybody took part and enjoyed raising the baby together watching it grow. [Removed by Support] "So I’m still in command? Performance is bad. Lack of communication is even worse. People who are playing Hex Blast in Sanctum saying perf is good are the worst.
