Energy Shield on Hit
We have energy shield on hit from jewels and from an aspect/item combo; can we get energy shield on hit from a skill gem?

I've often wondered the same thing...why is it that we have a "life gain on hit" and a "life leech" gem (I know they support different things...irrelevant), but when it comes to mana and ES we only have %.
Mana leech support having the caveat of only supporting attacks is weird, considering its equivalent life and ES leech support specifically does NOT have this caveat. Perhaps there was something in the devs mind that decided ES leech on hit was too OP, or that spell mana leech was too OP, or something like that. I personally don't believe it would be and it would be great to have an "on hit" generator for both of these. |

Im putting words in the devs mouths here but I would guess the reason ES on hit is much more rare is that an ES pool can easily be made much larger than a life pool and with enough hits you could instantly fill up your ES if there are multiple sources of easy ES on hit. So the build easily becomes immortal while standing still as long as you dont get one shot.
And removing an source of spell mana leech was done awhile ago as a design decision by the devs. |

^A larger pool would increase the effect of a %-based leech, not a hit-based one.
And both those arguments can be applied exactly the same to life pool, which already has both sources in abundance (even more abundant than ES on hit via weapon implicits, tree, gem, etc.) |

I actually feel the opposite. They should have abolished LoH, Leech and all other forms of offensive sustain. They're just old fundamentally bad mechanics but this digs deep into all sorts of other issues like gaining flask charges from kills. All of it reinforcing "Dead things don't fight back".

" mana leech on spells would be extremely powerful because of archmage and indigon interactions "buff grenades"

ES on Hit support gem would not hurt if it comes with a damage multiplier as well since ES builds have a harder time gearing up it would make sense.

But they already have ES on hit. They still have LoH, and they still have leech. I am pretty sure they are not going away. My question is if these others exist, and ES on hit exists in other forms, why can't it exist as a skill gem?

Ice Lance / EK + Sniper's Mark + Returning Projectile / Nimus?
LoH can essentially emulate Leech V1 given the right skill setup. GGG probably regrets making both systems. Evidence by LoH passives being halved. "Never trust floating women." -Officer Kirac

" The original post is about ES on hit. I don't understand how LoH emulating something fits into this. All I am saying is that ES of hit exist in a couple of forms already. Why not on a gem? |
